It is very likely that the 'unnamed French prospective buyer' is Orange, the mobile arm of France Telecom. They have been gradually buying into operators in Anglophone Africa.

So Orange Nigeria, here we come!

It's their way and I don't expect if at all the deal is close on, not to see another sell out and change of name:
From 1) Econet = 2) Vodacom = 3) VeeNetwork trading as Vmobile = 4) Celtel = 5) Zain and probably the french company I foresee here is = 6) Orange Telecoms.

This metamorphoses is really getting very interesting, I think I'm lovin it.

I suggest they should simply change their name to BUYTEL instead of whatever they have in mind.

That company is tough. Just surviving through all the name and philosophy and business change and still not doing badly. I bet if it had had the stability of Mtn or glo it would have been a big force, or would it?
