Exactly! The Nigerian government always gets its priorities wrong. Apart from the fact that - as a few people have already pointed out - Nigerian manufacturers of pencils do in fact exist - what business does the government have getting into pencil manufacturing when it should be concentrating on fixing the infrastructural and security issues which make life difficult for private manufacturers? Do all of the people cheering this announcement really think that a bunch of civil servants playing with government money will ever do as good a job as private businessmen risking their own money?

Nobody with any understanding of business or awareness of Nigerian history should be cheering this ridiculous announcement. The most likely thing that will happen with the new venture is that it will provide an opportunity for a few politicians, civil servants and cronies to steal public money for a while, before quietly being shut down in failure after a few years.

If it is true that Nigeria does not produce pencils then you have no business talking about high profile technology.
High profile technologies are made up of smaller technologies. You need to master the smaller before you move higher.
For example, you can't manufacture planes without knowing how to build small sensors, pressure valves, and engines.

At this age we are talking of production of pencils. We should be ashamed of ourselves.

Furthermore,I did not bother to read such lenghty write up because we want to start the production of pencil;it is a shame to me and my country.
