Another year, another Catholic bashing post!! 2000 years of bashing and the church still dey there.

BTW, OP probably attended the Catholic Church on a particular event called 'a day with Mary' .to see Mary''s statue up front. This is no act of worship but a day set aside in a parish for intercessory prayers.

A day with mary on christmas day? Really?! The birthday boy's statue was kept aside, while that of mary was placed almost at the centre, beside the pulpit.

Ok, so when are guys having 'a day with Joseph'? Doesn't he know how to intercede as well?

So to you guys, Jesus is not enough to intercede for you? Did he complain you guys are overloading his network, and you should resort to asking mary to intercede in lieu?

If anyone should intercede, shouldn't it be someone who defied death, like Enoch and Elijah who were taken up into heaven?

Go and expand your mind.

every saint is honoured ,bro. Check the liturgy of Mass, and the numerous saint prayers. Those without specific dates are honoured on 'All Saints day '. St Josephs specific day is March 19.

Bro, you've got a lot to learn about Christianity because it didn't start in 21st century. We worship our Lord Jesus ,he is the focus of everything done in the Catholic Church.

To be deep in history is to cease to be protestant.- John Newham.

Go into Christian history bro.

facts:
"Religion has killed rational thinking in this country. I say this all the time, our country is still in a pre-scientific era. That is why things are like this. We don’t think logically; that is why any ruler, any fool would seize the reins and rule us, because we would always find an excuse for being ruled or being led by the nose.

Not long ago a pastor said he was between two cities and he discovered that the fuel in his car had run out. He actually checked and saw the fuel in the car was completely gone. But because of his act of faith and on the strength of his prayers, he was able to do two hundred miles on an empty tank!

When he declared this testimony, people clapped and shouted “ Hallelujah!” I never heard anybody say how can?"

"Nigerians don’t ask questions; that is why the imams and the pastors lead them by the nose, and the politicians also complete their humiliation and disempowerment. And between the clerics and the political functionaries, there is a very close liaison.

It’s a kind of power structure; one controls the political, social realm, the other controls the spiritual, metaphysical realm and they are together. Many Nigerians are not rational, interrogative people.

In fact, in this country today, if you are the interrogative type you are easily labelled, branded, and condemned. People even wonder: why are you always asking questions?"

"Another problem: well, our people are docile and the reason why they take all kinds of cheating is that many of them envisage themselves in the position of power someday, too.

If I am X and the oppressor is Y, and the oppressor is oppressing me, stealing all the money, and making life difficult for me and my children, I am not likely to attack him. I’ll pray to God to let my own “miracle” happen so that someday, he will go and I will be in his place. No; I am praying for him to go but for the structure to remain."

He gained degrees at the University of Ibadan (BA), the University of Leeds (MA) and York University, Canada (PhD, 1979). Previously professor (from 1989) and Head of English (1993–97) at the University of Ibadan, he became professor of English at the University of New Orleans in 1997. She could not go to school in Nigeria so they found a school in the U.S. for her. They moved with her so Niyi and Kemi could be closer to her.

I saw a video in which some people claimed dead mary appeared to them. I laughed till I could laugh no more.

Nothing more than hallucination. Idiocy.

Luke 11:27-28 "...a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said...'Blessed is the woman(mother) that conceived and bored you, and Jesus said..'Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and do his will'. Jesus clearly downplayed the honour, the blessedness, and adoration of mary, and emphasized the need to do the will of God.

John 19:26".....when Jesus saw his mother(but wasn't described as beloved mother) and the disciple whom he "loved", he said to her.....'WOMAN(not mother or mummy), behold your son...

Christ acknowledges the fact mary was nothing more than a surrogate vessel.

Like I've said, catholicism is a doctrine created to celebrate, honour, bless, and hail mary, who was nothing more than a lady favoured to be a vessel because of her purity. Catholicism resorted to worship her disceetly(when prayers are directed to her).

I used to be an Alter Boy in one Roman Catholic Church in Abuja. After Sunday Mass, the money collected was much. The Priest made us to count and share the money—all of us that took part in the Sunday service

If my mum was born in her time, perhaps the angels wld have tossed a coin to choose who was going to conceive the savior to life.

No sane person wld disregard the reason why a son wld address his mother as 'woman'. Did the word 'mother' skip from his memory at that point he wanted to address her? Or was she wearing a mask that the son didn't recognize her as his mother?

ROM boy, u need to upgrade ur mind. When u give birth to a son, hand him over to a budhist for upbringing. When he grows up, go and tell him christianity is the true religion and see if he wld agree with u.

The point is, people follow what they are taught, what they are brought up with. My point is, people shld start thinking, rather than allow their leaders think for them.
Maybe it is you who is ROM. You obviously think the Bible was written in English. KJV Onlyism anyone? The word woman you gloat over is actually supposed to be Lady when properly translated.

Young man u're missing the point.

Why honour mary and not honour Joseph equally? Wasn't he also chosen to play a vital role in the salvation of mankind?

Why honour mary and not John, the greatest prophet who prepared the way for christ?

Why honour Mary and not Isaiah, who prophesized the coming of the christ?

Why not Moses who saw God?

Why not David, a man after God's heart?

Why not Samson, the strongest man that ever lived?

Why not Solomon, the wisest king?

Why not Abraham, the father of many nations?

You didn't deem it fit to honour great men who showed the gentiles the might of the God of Isreal, who parted the sea, killed a thousand men with the jawbone of an ass, who built an edifice to God, but had to honour a vessel, who was chosen becos of her purity, but had no book in her honour.

I saw the statue of Mary placed at the centre of the pulpit, while that of the messiah was placed at the extreme end, and your folks walked in, took a bow at the centre statue. Even if I was dumb, I'd stil tel such practice is wrong.
No at the center of every altar (not pulpit) of every Catholic Church in the whole world is a crucifix i.e a cross with a corpus. Back to you thinking that Catholics don't use their brain, you have probably never heard of Augustine right, or Aquinas, or Hans Urs von Balthasar or Henry Cardinal Newman or Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger? All of whom are definitely more intelligent than your fathers Luther, Calvin and their likes.

They are intelligently slowpoke*d. No sane man with great control of his mind would 'doctrinate', honour, and pray to a woman who didn't write a single sentence in the bible, who wasn't attributed a book in the bible, who was always tagged a woman by her son, who didn't transform a pencil to an eyeshadow, who later knew her husband and gave birth to other children(but is stil referred to as virgin mary).

A sane man would rather honour John the baptist who prepared the way for christ, for without him, the messiah would not have been accepted.

More insults. So you were taught that being chosen by the Father from eternity to be the mother of the Divine Saviour is lesser than writing an epistle. Not trying to psychoanalyse you but it seems your anti-Roman bias is generating your hatred for the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a shame. For your information, the Catholic Church celebrates feasts not only in honour of Mary but also in honour of the Holy Apostles and even celebrates the birthday of St John the Baptist. The Church also not only implores the intercession of the Virgin Mary but all the Saints. Of course the Church teaches that the Blessed Virgin is greater than all of God's creatures.

What? You insisting that the Virgin Mary is not Jesus' mother? For your information in the Syriac culture to which Jesus' mother belonged, addressing a woman as Lady is highly honorific just like addressing a man as Lord. Interestingly the name Mary actually means Lady in Aramaic.

Elizabeth, the mother of John the baptist, wasn't chosen by God to bear the greatest prophet who would prepare the way for the coming of Jesus? Yet she's neither honoured nor celebrated by you caths!

Your problem is that you lack the power to reason incisively. Mary was a chosen vessel. Stop indoctrinating her. Your doctrine of honouring mary(who didn't die as a virgin!!!!!!) is likened to other religions like the one who claims to worship the supreme being(God) through a prophet.
Re: Catholicism: The Naivety And Gullibility Of Catholic Followers by matrix199(m): 11:25pm On Jan 11, 2016
Seeking intercession from mary is as stupid and dumb as a man who asks the SSG to the federation to help him crave audience with the president who happens to be his father(the man).

God sent his son to redeem humanity. He made his name above every other names. He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the father, or seeketh the father, or prays to the father, but by him. You caths deemed it right to pray or ask a dead woman to intercede on your behalf? Seriously?

You all have the organ called brain, but it's not functioning to its best capacity.
