refreshrate:that is the business angle to it . Dstv and other cable tv providers already have their market ,Netflix doesn't. Secondly not all mobile users will embrace Netflix because Nigerians are data consumption conscious, and thirdly why are u insisting on dstv alone there are other operators in the market. My submission is based on the general business climate in Nigeria. |

Hmm... I just think this is not so necessary in a country like Nigeria right now. We should be trying to develop, not rely on developed countries for everything. |

onatisi: From the bottom up Seriously how many of each of the other contenders do you personally know at least 10 of their subscribers? Data consumption conscious yes, do you honestly not believe that things are improving regarding data? Remember when people had to pay 100NGN per hour to browse at cyber cafes? If someone asks you to come and invest in cyber cafe now would you answer him? What would be your reason? Exactly! A time was wimax seemed like it was the ultimate speed today na 4g LTE i think requiring less infrastructure and delivering more. Thats what technology is all about...well except in the case of dstv. You underestimate how easy technology gets swapped remember cathode ray boxlike tvs? How long did it take for that to be dumped for flat screen tvs? or cassette players for cds and now mp3s? DSTV already has its market, now imagine them losing it? The major band of people who subscribe to DSTV are the young and upwardly mobile. If today an episode of blacklist airs on NBC in america and im following them on facebook or twitter you think i like hearing gist after the show has been aired? Or not being able to watch the show at my own convenience, all those things they call catch up or even box office and make people pay extra for? If i want to watch an episode of the Cosby show or any of those programs that i just feel like, bamn! just a few clicks and im there! no more do you remember...? Some months na so so repeat movies dem go just dey show person! No more! If i want to watch a repeat movie, let it be what i want, where i want and at my own convenience. Let them hold on to Africa magic yoruba for all i care but for these points o dude no need to disturb yourself trust me Nigeria has moved...the world has moved. Guy Netflix and chill! The era of magic is over! Theyve had a good run let someone else provide us with quality entertainment biko 1 Like |

Re: Netflix Enters Nigeria, See The Winners And Losers by Nobody: 8:12pm On Jan 07, 2016 |
Just like 2012 when university dorm rooms were disturbed daily about Netflix, in a few months time another company is coming to cut a slice from the Nigerian market: Amazon's Lovefilm. Competition, as done the world over except Africa, would drive the price down for even Western based services like Netflix. We the Africans would enjoy the most out of it since our people have killed all chances of making the indigenous industry competitive. |

Netflix's content in Nigeria is terribly meager compared to what's available in the US. Nigeria has 230 TV shows on Netflix. The US has 1340 shows!! No Breaking Bad, Borgias, Bones, or Buffy (see pictures), and this is just a selection from Bojack Horseman to Broadchurch. No Firefly, no Archer, no Clone Wars. No Barney, no Bob Zoom. No Greys Anatomy, or House, or Scandal. And we pay the same amount as US viewers.

You forget that the Nigeria. Govt have full sovereignty on what to allow into her airwaves, or internet from Nigeria. Go ask what happened to Uber in France and UK, we can get our tax steadily else we will block it |

Strawman:They've had the ability since. If they want they can pay it without blinking, I guess they just want to rubbish our government and take advantage of the little corruption within their power. If you check the thread on how much data people use yearly you'd realize mtn's making a killing from data services also, probably even way more than they enjoyed from voice call service alone. Even people happy to buy data at discounted rates and use simple server tweaks still pay more than settling for BIS monthly for a whole year. |
