Armsgate: Why EFCC freed Buhari’s friend, Jafaru Isa

Brigadier General Lawal Jafaru Isa, a former military
administrator of Kaduna State was released by the
Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after he
refunded some of the money he received from the
arms deal.

The All Progressives Congress chieftain was said to have
returned 60 per cent of the money he allegedly
collected from the Office of the National Security
Adviser (ONSA). “He admitted collecting money from ONSA and he has refunded 60 per cent of the sum credited to him. I think it should be about N100 million,” said the source.
“Isa is the only person who has so far refunded money
among the political figures who collected funds from
ONSA. “We have granted him bail to allow him time to source for the balance.”

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) had decried the
release of Isa, eight hours after he was arrested by the
EFCC, alleging that, the Federal Government was not
fighting corruption but on a clamp-down mission on
PDP leaders.

It wondered why its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa
Metuh, was yet to get such treatment.
PDP added that Isa’s release was ordered by the
presidency as he was freed “after the EFCC boss” held a
meeting at the Presidential villa.

Nawao. This Dasuki's arms deal just spread like cancer. Seems only few people were able to escape it. Lots of people have their hands soiled. Some are just patiently waiting cos they know it coming to them soon.

His release is not a surprise to me...cos both of them are childhood friends.and they both seat on thesame mat in kaduna eating gworo(kolanut).

Buhari has long asserted that all he wants is to have stolen monies returned.

The wise ones had even returned such slush funds before they were discovered. The greedy ones continued to hope that theirs will not be discovered.

Let Metuh return his own share and then complain if he his not released.

As for Santa Dasuki who coordinated the pilfering of the commonwealth, and his corrupt principal Jonathan, only imprisonment will be the most merciful consideration for them.

Some do not actually know that such funds came from the state coffers. They only got the funds from PDP campaign seniors, so they expected the funds to have come from donors.
However, anyone who got the funds directly from Dasuki should be prosecuted for being complicit in the embezzlement.

I am afraid this democracy may be truncated with the way Buhari is ruling this country and fighting his political opponents all in the name of fighting corruption. The dude should just make sure that all the "imprisoned" fellows stay there for a looonggg time, which is also another reason for anarchy. Otherwise, he may not be able to survive the accumulated venom of a regrouping of these wounded snakes.

While I'm not saying he should have been released or not, I think it makes sense to be a bit lenient with anyone who is ready to return their loot. A Yoruba adage has it that, when u catch a thief, and he eventually drops what he stole, what else do you want?
While I don't want to take sides, I think PDP was foolish to have said same treatment wasn't given their spokesman, did their spokesman offer to return his loot. Meanwhile, some people were even said to have started returning loot before efcc issue got to them, I don't think efcc is troubling those ones any longer.
The president has repeatedly said he wants to recover stolen funds and would go any length, so I think, if u willingly surrender, u are free, if u don't, u will face the music. Is that too much to ask?
