the speedo isnt a yardstick to measure the speed a car can max out. Toyota uses 3 different engines in that camry namely, 2az-fe, 2az-fxe (hybrid), and 2gr-fe with 3 different gearbox a M/T, 5sp auto and 6sp auto respectively. In order to cut cost of production, they use a common speedo.

Your 4 cylinder cant accelerate faster and cant achieve a higher max speed than a 6cylinder or even a hybrid camry.

This is all theory, in practical, this will change as we experience bad roads. It will now depend on the driver.

Travelling from Abuja to Gombe through Jos, the commonly used car is Opel Vectra 1.8-2.0L. It will give your V6 a run of your life. Its not because they are faster but they know the road better than you and will almost never let off gas maintaining 140-160 no matter how bad the road is. Besides, the car has good shocks, you apply brake once and they pass you, you stand no chance.

When you race, there are only 2 things that matter, speedometer and time. Engine size does not matter.

A 2.0 I4 engine with a supercharger could be faster than a 3.0V6 naturally aspirated engine. The V6 would be bigger in size but shocking the 2.0 could have better time.

Weight is another factor. For example
2003 M.Benz C240 has 2.6L V6 168hp engine with curb weight of 3,310lbs
2003 Honda Accord 2.4L I4 160hp engine with curb weight of 2,989lbs.

Which do you think will be faster? That Benz can not near me. One got embarassed by me 2 wks ago, he thought being a Benz made him faster than an ordinary accord.

When you go up to the C320 3.2L V6 215hp with the Accord 3.0L V6 240hp, where will the benz be?

Nice review. Really engine, fuel consumption and maintenance should be a priority when taking decision on which car to go for.

I actually forgot I started this thread. However I ended up not getting a camry. Got a Lexus 2007 RX350 and I'm loving it. grin

Higher horsepower translates to higher top speed while higher torque numbers translates to faster acceleration.
