The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved $200 million World Bank loan for Lagos State.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed and his Power, Works and Housing counterpart, Babatunde Fashola.
According to them, it was part of a $600 million loan granted by World Bank for roads and other infrastructural development projects in the state.
While the first batch of $200 million was approved in 2010, subsequent batches were reportedly delayed by the last administration for political reasons.
Mohammed said: “We just finished the Federal Executive Council meeting and the major item which will be of interest was the Council’s approval of the memo put forward by the Minister of Finance to obtain additional $200 million loan from International Development Association (IDA), which is a window of the World Bank in support of the Lagos State development policy operation.”
He said the new approval will allow Lagos State to complete its very ambitious projects.
Fashola, who initiated the loan as governor of the state, noted that the $200 million loan was a segment of a total sum of $600 million loan for developmental initiatives in Lagos which was approved in 2010

All this talk about loans. I wonder if it is not the same APC people that were complaining that there was too much loan under Jonathan.

Allah forgive them and punish Nigerians for believing their lies.

The truth remains that Nigerians has been scammed by the APC change mantra, how else can one explain the fact that Lagos state which is said to be the most vibrant state in Nigeria and shld be able do without allocation from FG,has for sometime now continued in a reckless, relentless and glutonous borrowing. The minimal level of development in that state cannt be measured in any way with the outrageous amounts borrowed since the past years.

I dont know why i keep having this feelings that the future of Lagos has long been morgaged by the ruling elites.A bigger scandal awaits Nigeria, the day EFCC will focus their searchlight on Lagos state. Because they have all been compromised by the Tinubu cartel, every new governor comes in and covers the misdeed of the former!Ambode initially wanted to expose Fashola just for political expedience but was later called to order by the same Tinibu cabal and was told to pipe low since Lagos belngs to a few,of which Ambode has been invited to come and chop like others. This is so pathetic and the poor helpless masses are everywhere online defending these Lagos 'gods of the manor'.

Loan underwriting to states involves benefits from the FG and not the ability of the state to pay the loan back on agreed terms?

Smh.

It's not like it's a curried favor of sort since the money is being underwritten against their (Lagos State) future statutory share

The money Tinubu has is more than that loan. More money to share has been approved. The state is water deep in debt and still borrowing.

Wat will the future be like for Lagos?

The respondent wasnt insinuating that the Govt. granted the loan.
Without the Govt approving the borrowing, it wouldnt get approval from world bank.. No?
