UI is arguably the best University in Nigeria...... No doubt, repping the premier varsity

Dis list sha can't change the choice of school on ma mind tho! If e like make e be no. 100!

I don't really know what criteria they use to evaluate. But imagine in a country where we like to rank our universities. But no any invention since the inception of all these schools.
Majority of the graduate from these schools are still @ home searching for job.. But to no avail.. Becos they only teach you to go in to the real word to search for jobs..
As far as I am concerned ranking which one is the best shouldn't be our major priority.. I think these schools need better curriculum to help the youth of theses days out of unemployment.. May be until they start doing this.. They can compete with foriegn school..

None of these universities made the first 1000 in the world

Because

1.Most of them are poorly funded...which means they cannot do cutting edge research....and the government and people won't let them raise funds by increasing fees.And when govt promises them money...like in 2009...they will then turn round later and say...no money.

2.Corruption in the system....

3.Lack of merit. We do not appoint Vice Chancellors based on their being the best people for the job...we appoint them based on tribal and political considerations. And when the VC comes from the right tribe....we go to which village/catchment area he comes from.So...we get bad vice chancellors because we must make the local tribe happy.(And it happens all over the country by the way).

And it is even worse in appointments of academics and admission of students.

Since when did appointing vice chancellor become matter of tribe? Nigerians!

4.We do not have enough lecturers. Some universities have lecturers that have jobs elsewhere...some lecturers are even teaching at two or three universities. Why? Because there aren't enough lecturers in the particular field. And we are not recruiting enough lecturers....today's first class graduate would rather go an work in a bank or oil company...or get out of the country.

Most of our universities do have inventions....ABU's agric department for instance developed a very productive strain of groundnut that has good yields and is disease resistant.

The problem is....money.

Once you invent something....you need the private sector to fund the production of your invention. But the palaver is...the Nigerian private sector due to financial constraints does not want to go into investing in local inventions. So...University inventor takes his invention out of the country....or just puts it in the university museum for show.

And because of poor funding...plus the fact that most Nigerian companies won't fund universities inventions...depriving the universities of getting new cash to develop the next generation of inventions...and govt has ''no money''...we cannot continue sustaining the good work....leading to stagnation.

Sigh.

If lasu dat has been on hit strikes since 1980 back to bak from den till now is ahead of FUTO n UNN, den d problem wit dis list is d same problem wit u. As im takin to u OAU jus came back from strike dats if they hv not gone on another strike. Fake list.
