Nigeria’s minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige has finally opened up on the protests by the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) for a sovereign state.

The former governor of Anambra state, who spoke with Naij.com in Alor, venue of his late father’s funeral ceremony, insisted that there is nothing like Biafra.
According to him, the protesters are only a group of discontented people, a situation which is not peculiar to the eastern part of the country where they are domiciled.

When asked what he thinks about the incessant protests by the pro-Biafrans, he noted with a lot of assurance, that the protesters are to the east, what Boko Haram is to the northern part of the country and the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in the southwestern part of the country.

He said, therefore, that there is really no need for Nigerians to panic about their presence or activities as they would be handled the same way others were dealt with by the federal government.

“Biafra? What do you mean by Biafra?” he retorted rhetorically when asked about the struggle by the protesters.

“There is no struggle anywhere. There is even no agitation. It is just discontent.”

“In Yoruba land, they say they are OPC, Oodua Peoples Congress; in the Niger Delta, they say they are militants; in the northern part of Nigeria, especially the northwest and northeast, they say they are Boko Haram. They are against western education. They say that it is from western education that they learn how to steal money.

“So, it is discontent. The people who say they are doing Biafra agitation are the same thing and they will be handled the same way others have been handled. Dialogue!” the former Senator quickly added.

For a man to refer to his people thus:

"According to him, the protesters are only a group of discontented people, a situation which is not peculiar to the eastern part of the country where they are domiciled."
Coming from a minister this will lead to further division instead of trying to be a statesman and reintegrate his people.
If Biafra ever comes what will he make of this statement?
Oga no vex u be civil servant not activist. Be mature and quell the situation don't escalate it.

People like you will goad the innocent to their doom.

A man that will turn against his kin and spite them instead of trying to mediate and solve the issues on ground.
What does he have to gain if he says the Government will through policies, persuade the so called IPOB to see reason with them?

What lessons have we really learnt from the manner which the Boko Haram crisis brewed in the past 7 years?

Might is not always expedient. However strategy and tact play a vital role in neutralising enemies.

Any man who openly or knowingly deny the struggle of his people for a mere political appointment or self benefit is a traitor... Watch him carefully because he will always betray you when he get a bigger offer. #Fact.

Don't mind Ngige he is just trying to please his master na normal thing with humans. He should have used a better method to address the issue. U can't kill an ideology. As for me there should be sincere drive for reconciliation by the govt towards eastern Nigeria and policies should be made so as to improve business in the east. Lagos is too conjested

You see, thats the problem with IPOB apologists. You guys don't want to hear the truth. What they are doing is a treasonable act and one of them who has summoned the courage to come out and talk is labelled a sell out. These are guys who have thrown the word "negotiation " into the River Niger.Ngige sure knows.

Boko haram is a terrorist organization and must not be compared to OPC or IPOB.

Boko haram is against education (any education) except islamic/Arabic brainwashing education.

They want to enthrone an islamic caliphate and sharia law throughout Nigeria sidelining the Nigeria constitution.

Yes, western education is a disaster, that's a different ball game and doesn't need kidnapping school children or going to war to explain.

Western education kills African culture, it kills the innate intellectual capabilities of Africans, it indoctrinates the mind of educated Africans, it kills economic growth. The damage is endless. Finally, western education destroys African languages (which is why he Mr. Chris Ngige is talking to his community in English).

Mr. Ngige, is there anybody in your village that doesn't speak Igbo?. Why addressing your brothers and sisters in English in your own village?.
