I am AA but seriouslyn in love with a SS girl. my family has thier objections regarding tyhe health of the girl saying that sicklers have low life expectancy. I need advise from fellow nairalanders.

How severe is her own? Some are more severe than others. The less severe, the less worries. Put your faith in God.
Many AA women die during childbirth, accidents etc. just after their weddings.

The only risk is with your wife, if she is now stable and can concieve a child and deliver it safely, then my brother go ahead no Wahala, you can never give birth to AS child never, never!!!!

Marry SS there is nothing bad, human being only no when they came but not when they will die. Only advise is that your fianceé should be on her regular medication folic acd and antibiotic. Then when ever she pregnant she have to do chronicVillus sample at 11weeks and result is out by 12 weeks, this would help both of you to know if she carry SS baby or not. Go ahead and marry her and have marry in life.

Seems MANY are in dis dilemma! lol!! i'm hunting for the head of the lab technician that gave my friend a wrong genotype result(AA) before we started dating only to find out that we are both AS. sounds funny, but sincerly, ITS not!

A whole lot of crap is being said about Sickle Cell and I find it pretty disgusting. For starters,
I do hope u were able 2 make d choice to marry d woman u love irrespective of her genotype. Here
are some facts dat many people don't know about sicklers:

1. They are pretty intelligent. Many of dem have an above average IQ.
2. They live pretty normal lives: have lots of sex, fun, children and eVerything else 'normak'
people do. And 10nks to science etc dey can do much more.
(To mention a few of cause).

On d issue of seeing a sickler in a crises! Yes! It is painful, scary, horrible and of cause exaggerated
by people. From a certain age e.g. 20+ sicklers r able 2 understand what triggers off their crises
and avoid them -so dey live pretty healthy lives. On d other hand, should they fall into a crises,
there r specialist hospitals where they can get PROMPT medical care.

In response to d guy who talked abt spending ur salary on drugs, pls note d following:

1. A well managed sickler is relatively cheap to maintain
2. Who says she's going 2 b solely dependent on u 2 provide? After all, she has a job
So dat will help ease things - but a real man must be ready 2 provide for his woman.

I married a sickler 5 years ago, I am AA and he is SS, we have 3 lovely children together, a girl and two boys, the are all AS, He knows how to treat himself and I can tell you that in that five years he has only had 32 major crises that took us to hospital and he is dischared same day or next day. He knows when he is about to have crises and fights back immediately. you hardly know if he is a sickler because he does not have the features, sure the parents took proper care of him while he was a kid.

U can go ahead and marry her. if u know u can be there 4 re anytime she needs u. I am a sickler and i married a man with AA and with d help God and his support we have 2 lovely kids a boy and a girl. D only advice is dat she need an househelp or any of her family member to help her when u re not available. Sickler's live normal like AA or AS is just d crisis dat is diff.
