As a social scientist the answer goes thus:
1. 1.1 taking 0 away which makes gloves expensive than the cup

2. You divide 100 by 10 and that gives 10 minutes

3. Its impossible because of price uncertainty.
The analysis is that the man may decide to stock up to meet his ends. E.g becoming a millionaire, thus the fall of price and the rise of price or continuous buying and selling at the same price is not certain.

Of all answers I've read, you are closest. What folks may not realize is that questions like these are testing your verbal reasoning and not mathematical skills, that's the first thing to know.

1.) It's basic English, they just want to throw you off balance by the statement that the glove is 100times the cost the cup. The statement says they are both N110 which simply means the cost of each of them is N110.

2.) The machines are working independently of each other and as such, they produced one doughnut each at the given time which invariably means the given time is also what it will take for the 100 machines and that is 10minutes.

3) This one took me time to figure out. The answer is that it is only possible by 'his calculation' and not anybody's so, doing mathematical calculations for how he will become a millionaire is a waste of your time. Come to think of it, the category of monetary riches that can make one a millionaire is a very broad range and we are not given any hint that the man wants to be a millionaire in tens or in hundreds. Therefore, only him knows the amount he's targeting to make as profit in millions which makes any calculation aside his own a waste of time

2 is settled leaving us with 1 and 3.

1. A glove and cup both cost 110naira. The cost of the glove is 100times more than that of the cup. How much is the cup?

By English, the first statement is ambigious.
1st meaning: glove and cup all cost inclusive in N110

2nd meaning: glove and cup both cost the same. If this is the case what would be the importance of writing the second statement at all since it counters it.

3. Even by 'his calculation', it is impossible for him to hit 6 zeros. The only answer to this is that any amount less than a billion can be expressed in fractions of a million, so he is a millionaire by expression of a small fraction of a million.

The number of likes you got forced me to reply you.

You (to-be employee) are expected to be the solution to the "problems" of his company but you can't solve problems beyond the capabilities of your brain/mind (rationales/judgements) hence the need for such analytical questions to be sure you're indeed the right person for the job.

Did that help?

So getting the answer right means that the person is the right candidate that can deliver.

Is just like including further math. course for the people studying YORUBA LANGUAGE AS A COURSE IN THE UNI. Please what is the correlation? Can you answer me!

The questions are tricky but actually simple to solve.

Q1. 100y+y=110
y=110/101=1.089...

Q2. 10 machines taking 10 minutes for 10 donuts means each machine makes one every 10 minutes. Therefore, 100 machines would make 100 in the same 10 minutes.

Q3.

Leaving aside the poor English in which the question is formulated, I assume it means the person is buying 12eggs for N5 and selling each one for N3 or for a total of N36

therefore cost of each egg = 5/12=N0.416667
price at which they are sold = N3
therefore, profit per egg = 3-0.416667 = 2.5833

Now, if he sells 20 eggs per day, his daily profit will be 20*2.5833=N51.666 per day

Hence, total profit per year can be 51.666*365=N18 858, which is less than a million.

The only way to perhaps become a millionaire is if the condition of 20 eggs/day has been wrongly written here. Then it would be possible if we consider the compounded growth in the person's ability to purchase and sell eggs.

Fortune02:
1. 1.1
2. 10min
3. 5/12= N0.4166667 per egg
3 - 0.4166667 = N2.5833333 profit per egg sold
2.5833333 * 20 = 51.666666 profit daily
51.666666 *365 = N18,858.333 annual profit

Going by the info given he will make approx N18,858 in a year. That's N0.019mil grin so its possible cheesy
smart

Akious2k2:

Thanx 4 calling my attention...Pls see below... I'll go & modify
Q1,
Glove=G; Cup=C
G+C=110 .............(1)
G=100+C ..............(2)
from (1)
C=110-G ..............(3)
Also, from (2)
G=100+C ...............(4)
insert (3) into (4)
C=110-(100+C)
C=110-100-C
C+C=110-100
2C=10
C=10/2
C=5
Putting C in eqn (4)
G=100+5=105
Therefore, d cost of glove is 105Naira while dat of cup is 5Naira; Since d question says The cost of the glove is 100times more than that of the cup
Q2,
Answer can be 10Minutes or 100Minutes, depending on d explanation (D question is not complete)
for 10minutes,
if 1 machine is responsible to produce each donut
for 100minutes,
if d donut has to go through each of the machines
Q3,
12 eggs bought @ d rate of 5naira & sold for 3naira?
Even if u sell 100 crates per day, the business will continue to record a loss of 2naira per dozen. Therefore, I don't think it is possible to profit.
I agree with you completely especially no 1. No 2 is not quite explanatory enough, though It's correct..

please I need you to finish "that" story.......do you have a blog or an online publishing medium?....how can I get in touch It's really important

I just sent you a PM

Thanks
Mindependent:

Firstly, I'll ask you this. How long were you given to answer these questions? If it was a relatively short period of time as opposed to an assessment type interview with pen and paper then I believe these questions are based on pure logic.

1. The cup costs 110naira, this was already stated in the first sentence, ability to retain info. The second part is just to throw one off a bit, to those saying 1.1 unit, I disagree because the cup needs to have monetary value and unit just doesn't count.

2.Still gonna take 10 minutes, still the same machines working and their timing is not gonna change as they are only functioned to make anything for 10 minutes so even if you had 1mill of them, still gonna take 10minutes as long as the number of doughnuts and machines are proportionally equal in all contexts.

3.It is possible because in this context, there are more than 365days in his year. Shikena grin

My opinion smiley wink
