Premature labour and birth occurs when a pregnant woman experiences contractions and dilation in her uterus before the allowable period or duration of a normal pregnancy. The standard duration of a normal pregnancy is approximately forty weeks. Any baby born before this standard duration is regarded to be premature. Premature labour is simply the opening of the cervix, before the 37th week of pregnancy. Babies born before the 37th week of pregnancy are called premature babies and they stand the risk of having some somewhat inexplicable health complications. Some of the most intelligible outcomes of premature birth are protracted or lifelong disabilities as well as infant mortality.
