According to today's Supreme Court ruling, the Senate President Saraki must face trial for corruption charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Public office holders, no matter how highly placed, must be accountable.

In essence, the highest court in the Nigeria has aligned itself with the current realities on ground in saying "no one is above the law". This is the one of the best news Nigerians could ever get today.

While Saraki is still presumed innocent until the court finds him guilty as charged, Nigerians would hope that this trial would run its full course and justice would be served. Same optimism applies to the plethora of corruption cases of other accused persons.

Hopefully the culture of impunity would gradually end as sanity returns to the polity.
