If only I was imbued with the Igbo character, but I'm not. I am Yoruba and Bukola Saraki is my criminal brother who must be prosecuted. OP, take your tribal support for criminality to the SouthEast, that's where such is done with fanfare. 8 Likes |

samstradam: Bukola Saraki claims his grandfather was an immigrant from Mali who settled in Ilorin as an Islamic scholar. If we are to tag along with that story line, then the only thing that makes Bukola a Nigerian is his Yoruba blood. That same Malian immigrant married a Yoruba woman that bore his father Olusola Saraki, who also married Yoruba women that bore Bukola and Gbemisola and their other half siblings. Bukola too married Tosin Ojora the daughter of Lagos royalty Adekunle Ojora. The Sarakis ensure to always marry Yorubas but claim they are Malian Fulani settled in Ilorin. Going by the narrative of the Sarakis, Bukola Saraki is 7/8 Yoruba Nigerian and 1/8 Fulani Malian. However, not a few doubt the Fulani Malian immigrant story. 1 Like |

I think the op is just trying to show that ethnicity should prevail over nationality... A Yoruba adage says "omo eni ko nii guru tii tii, ki a le fekun paje"... Saraki is truly corrupt and I don't even like him not to talk of defending him but everyone knows is trial is just a political gang up 1 Like |

TheArchangel:As much as i dnt support racial stereotyping but the unfortunate fact that stares in the face is that some of ur folks wd have been up in arms right now if Saraki/Dasuki was of ur stock. Like I said this is unfortunate! We are stared with this danger of a single narrative where a vocal few who support criminality have overshadowed the voices of the many who are objective enough to see issues beyond supposed "persecution" but have chosen to be quiet! That's d narrative ur stock needs to counter! 4 Likes |

TheArchangel: Yes they shamelessly made themselves the yardstick for clannish support over objective reasoning. Every Nigerian knows that already, and they continue to reinforce the low opinion the rest have about their objectivity. Using them is very apt in this discussion. Of all who have been fingered in the Dasuki loot, only Olisa Metuh had the priviledge of having his clansmen defend him with fanfare with banners declaring "leave our brother alone". I am Yoruba, so the OP should look for supporters for his clannish argument in the location were people have surplus of such character. 3 Likes |

shaqhead: StOla:This is about Saraki. Why drag Igbos in? Your initial post is too childish, it lacks any objective reasoning concerning the subject of discourse rather it's filled with the same old dick measurements that leads no where. If the op isn't a well-known Yoruba poster, hell would've been let loose. Face your problems and leaves Igbos alone. 1 Like |

StOla: Like I said, the elder Saraki has a lot to answer for: www.nairaland.com/564090/saraki-egba-man but a more complete story can be found from this link from sahara copying the original The News article: www.saharareporters.com/2010/12/09/saraki-not-kwara-alhaji-abdulganiyu-folorunsho-abdulrazak Honestly their tale is just another typical story of GREED and AMBITION..... like I said "bastards" ( for lack of a more suitable word) are a phenomenon of all humankind- we have just been smart enough not to glorify one. 2 Likes |

This is about Yoruba's and their son, why drag Igbos in...is my question Isn't it obsessional for the person I quoted, that every of his/her comments has to be about Igbos irrespective of whatever is the topic. 1 Like 1 Share |

AlPeter:I do not have time to delve into a fruitless Merry go round. We have an adage in Igbo " onye aghala nwanne ya".. Do not leave your own behind. We'd rather caution my own privately than hang him out to dry. It doesn't mean we support bad conducts. I will never call out a brother in the midst of strangers, it can be done behind close doors. Our ideology differs...so just let's deal with it that way. 2 Likes 1 Share |

A Yoruba adage also says: 'Omo eni o le s'edi bebere, ka fi ileke si idi omo elomin' Another says: 'that a child does wrong does not mean you should feed him to lions' No one is a saint! |

VirginFinder: Virginfinder, Saraki is comfortable with the little hand me down gains of his association with the Northerners. This is habitual. The Saraki name has no concrete political hook below Kwara Stateline as it does in political circles above it. So Saraki has learnt the wisdom of identifying politically with North and therefore left his ethnic identity open for interpretation. Amidst the controversy of roots he has never openly declared to be Yoruba. His uncohesive approach has denied him a loyal political base amongst SW Yorubas. If he were to come out today and declare his Yoruba roots, SW will find legal and political loopholes to exploit in his favor to retain his seat and title. His coup against Lawan is viewed as a opposition against North and an ambition in contempt of the Arewa voice. There is a new North....one with academic and professional peerage and are qualified substantially to contest for political office, they will gradually drift away from zonal balance (federal character) and argue mote for competence and character as standard bearer of merit. Those charged to court for crime or corruption will automatically not qualify. In this sense many of the current political crop will be filtered out.... The new North will define around Sharia. If you are not in Sharia, you are others! If you are others you cannot carry the Northern political ticket. This will be a new social order in North. It is in infancy and gradually being indoctrinated amingst their intellectuals andprofessionals. Bokoharam gave them a new and shocking awakening. 1 Like |

TheArchangel: If that's your culture (to support your criminal outside and rebuke them inside), then I must say that's too unfortunate. Open rebuke is better than secret love, says the scripture. I will criticize my blood brother who is a criminal openly to show deterrent than support him. Crime thrives when a man knows you'll support him no matter his folly but if you know that I won't be a party to your crime, my dear, you'll give yourself brain sharperly. We must all be ready to shout thief on the criminal. Someone once told me that many cases of rapes are swept under the carpet in this country because we let the criminal knows he has our tacit support to ensure he will not be shamed but we must tell the criminal (rapists) in this case that no room for his activities in our societies. That will ensure he practices self-control. Let's shout on anyone who is a criminal and let's drop "my brother" syndrome. My brother/sister is the man/woman who think well of the societies before embarking on his adventure/misadventure. GOD bless us as we drop the folly embedded in our culture for a saner ones. 4 Likes 1 Share |

TheArchangel: He was merely showing the difference in thinking between the two groups. While the igbos were up in arms and screaming 'persecution' because Olisa Metuh was being tried for corruption, the yorubas have no time for any of their 'sons' who is caught with his hand in the 'yam farm' I have heard for instance, on Radio Biafra the 'director' threatening hell and brimstone if Diezani Maduekwe or Ngozi Okonjo Iweala should be 'touched' because they are your 'mothers'. It's wrong for people to blindly support wrongdoing simply because it is done by your 'brother'. 2 Likes |
