How To Identify A Real Job Interview by Smart101: 1:41pm On Feb 24, 2016
Due to the frustrations of many job seekers in Nigeria, many Nigerians have been tricked by job scammers who extort them of the little money in their pocket. Thanks to this thread on NairaLand, you now have a guide you can refer to on How to spot fake Nigerian Jobs https://www.nairaland.com/1841414/how-identify-scam-interview-invitation

Another important question is, “how do you spot a REAL interview so you don't miss a REAL job opportunity?”

1. Do a background search. When you are not sure you applied for an offer or the company is NOT POPULAR, always search the internet for the name of that company. A simple Google Search will do. There is a particular example that someone was misjudging VoguePay to be a scam. Thanks to the recommendations made by this NairaLand user, it should be clear that VoguePay is not. But the most important lesson is for job seeker to actually research about the company as @qualms advised in the thread https://www.nairaland.com/2465731/interview-invitation-voguepay#43185605

2. Always call or ask someone: A good rule of thumb is to ask a friend about the authenticity of the company. NairaLand, Facebook even Twitter are good places to ask. It is better to be sorry than sorry, you know. Recently, I met a guy who was invited for a scam interview and because I knew about them, I was able to advise him and he turned back immediately.

3. Did you get an email from them? Any real job offer will likely come with an invitation notice by mail in addition to SMS. This is because when you applied to a job with your CV, their HR is supposed to shortlist based on CV. Most likely, both your email and phone number are there.

4. What to do before and after the interview: To always be sure, try and contact the employer by phone number or email to confirm the position the interview is for.You should also be interested to know if it is a written or oral interview. This is because when you know the stage of the interview, you will be able to prepare better for the assessment. NairaLand is filled with several threads on how to prepare for job interviews. This is a link to several of them https://www.nairaland.com/search?q=HOW+TO+PREPARE+FOR+JOB+INTERVIEW&search=Search

After the interview, it will be a good idea to follow up (in case you are not called) to know the status of your interview. Many companies even send rejection letters too to let you know you were not selected.

5. If you were lucky to get the job, be the best staff you can be and make your first 90 days memorable.

Good luck.
