PDP House Caucus: Anti-corruption Battle Losing Appeal by adiguns3(m): 7:49am On Feb 26, 2016
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in
the House of Representatives has said the
manner of harassment of the opposition party
members, by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) is making the anti-
corruption battle lose its appeals.
The members asked the President Muhammadu
Buhari-led government to concentrate on
delivering on its campaign promises of reviving
the economy, providing social welfare and
arresting the fall of the naira.
The Minority Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor, while
addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday,
berated the EFCC for the arrest of the PDP
former Acting National Chairman, Mr. Uche
Secondus, on what he described as frivolous
charges.
“When you sell a specific product for too long, it
loses its value. The way they are going about
the anti-corruption is not right, arresting
everybody, we may get to a stage where the
EFCC becomes a political dog, which is what is
happening. The president should call the EFCC
to order, or rather the EFCC should call itself to
order,” Ogor said.
Flanked by PDP members, the minority leader
said while the party backs the anti-corruption
fight, it should not be used as a tool of
intimidation, or to silence a vibrant opposition.
“They have no business arresting him
(Secondus), if he was given vehicles by a
private businessman for political campaigns,
there is no crime there, because that is normal
practice around the globe.
“The billions they (APC) spend during elections
to charter jets and other expenses, where did it
come from? They were given vehicles and funds
by different groups and persons during the
campaigns,” he added.
Ogor lamented that the anti-graft commission
suddenly recalled it had a case of fraud of N300
billion against the current PDP Chairman, Ali
Modu Sheriff, immediately he emerged
Chairman.
