Yoruba economists can never move this country forward. See how prosperous the country was from the time of Obasanjo to jOnathan when the great Igbos were in charge, despite the so called corruption.

For u to say the economy was prosperous under OBJ and GEJ means u never studies economics or commerce in secondary school or you got an F9 in them.

All our leaders past and present are all Failures (OBJ,GEJ,PMB)

Dr. Dipeolu joined the United Nations system in 2005, following an illustrious career in the Nigerian Foreign Service, where he started as a Third Secretary in 1980 and rose to the rank of Ambassador. In the course of his work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specializing in African affairs and international economic cooperation, Dr. Dipeolu also served in the Nigerian Presidency, the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations in Geneva, and in the Nigerian diplomatic missions in Pretoria, South Africa; Addis Ababa; Ethiopia, and Caracas, Venezuela.

Good but...

When you needed strong economic advisers, you went ahead to appoint media advisers and equipped them with a large budget- one bigger than Agriculture and the Ministry of Solid Minerals.

Almost a year and half gone you suddenly realise that you need an Economic Adviser. You appoint one who appears to be a proven international diplomat rather than a proven economist. Why not put him as the Foreign Minister/ UN Representative where he obviously has more experience and can help chase up FDI on the foreign scene and then source for someone who is a proven, experienced and world-leading economist? The economy is in recession and needs a very experienced hand; nothing less, nothing more.

God help Nigeria.

Prosperous as how? As opposed to what it is now, Nigerian experienced the highest petroleum price in history during the period you mentioned (over $120/barrel) which was supposed to served as springboard for achieving a giant success, yet the resultant effects were:

1. Increased borrowing

2. Depletion of reserves

3. Borrowing to pay FG workers - http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/05/06/fg-borrows-n473bn-to-pay-salaries-okonjo-iweala/

4. 11-12 months strike action in Nigerian Universities(longest in history)

5. Dilapidated educational structures

6. Lack of diversification of economies.

7. Increased rates of unemployment the resultant effect was introduction of 'contract staff even in Nigerian Banks'

So, please tell us what was the achievement you were referring to?

Foreign earning is the least of our problem right now, the economy is in serious shambles. Buhari should get it back on track first, at least to the point of production rather than consumption, then we can talk about foreign earning.

Diversification and Agriculture is the key.

Sometimes I wonder the kind of writeup that we get. This man is simply the Economic Adviser to the VP and not to Buhari.

ProfDumbledor:
wait! this is confusing. the UNECA website say he is SA to Vp while op says he is SA to PMB. which one do we believe? but if he has been the SA to VP for the past one year as the website suggests, then he has not been advising well, given the current economic realities. look elsewhere......

1. The VP is responsible for the economy

2. all special advisers are special advisers to the president, including SAs to the VP. Dipeolu is SA to the president deployed to the VP's office because the VP is head of the economic council.

Buhari doesn't understand economics, never has never will, his own is that he doesn't like theives!!!

The best Economist/Finance Manager is known during the scarcity of resources, and not during booming. If your Voodoo Economist can borrow and open treasury for looters during the period of oil boom to finance recurrent expenditure, how much more if she is still there now?

There are currently 5 or so special advisers on propaganda, in the mind of the dullard, propaganda is more important than the economy.

Do u in all sincerity agree with me that this will take a bit of time?

Time is relative in this concept, depending on the factors. Are we talking about in a year's time or 10 years? We heard about petrol marketers asking for N151/litre, and two days ago, NNPC saying they want to import fuel from Benin/Cameroon, meanwhile, there's an article from two days ago alleging 14 months after Buhari in power, the refineries are worse than they were. So where does time play into all these? Let's not give excuse of "it take a bit of time" by making very simple problem into complex ones.

Diversification and Agriculture is the key.

Partially true, the question is: how do we achieve it? Unfortunately our current system of govt, unfriendly economic/fiscal policies and our political climate will NEVER allow for full diversification without some sought of govt interference.

Nigeria is a huge joke , a country in a bery tight recession situation makeing a diplomat its economic adviser rather than a seasoned economist.
No wonder Nigeria has never had any sector working, a lawyer is the current minister of power and a medical doctor is the minister for labour , while a clown is the minister for information

Makes it worse. So he has been there while inflation rate went from single to double digit; from 13.2% to over 16%. He has been there since we hit two successive negative GDP growth rate— recession.

There's nothing to rejoice about. Makes the case of a proven economist even more compelling.
