How do I make sure the loan/lien is taken care of?
Is expecting a current Texas Inspection Sticker good enough, I should I ask for what failed and proof that it was fixed?

Hi CWW,

The best way to tell if a vehicle has a lien is by looking at the title. On the front page, you will see entries such as these:

1st Lien Release Date___________ Authorized Signature___________
2nd Lien Release Date___________ Authorized Signature___________

If these are signed and dated, it is likely the vehicle has no lien. But to be certain, contact the lien holder that is listed on the title.

Unfortunately, I have nothing to say about the failed emission tests as I am not good at mechanics. I have been driving for more than 10 years and have never failed an emission test.

The lienholder keeps the title to the car (not the registration mind u). So if the title is available to you signed, then u have nothing to worry about. The lienholder wouldnt have gave it up otherwise.
