Aldus Huxley (humanist)

It is a bit embarrassing to have been concerned with the human problem all one's life and find at the end that one has no more to offer by way of advice than "Try and be a little kinder"

The renouncing of atheism by it's followers in times of affliction and death.

Sir Francis Newport, Voltaire, Tom Paine, David Hume, Altamont, Ethan Allen, Thomas Hobbes

These and many others are examples of those who pleaded for mercy from God and regretted their atheism in their dying hour.

Those men renouncing atheism at their time of afflictions and death were never afraid but only became wise of late. Atheism is nothing else but lame self pride that comes before a fall.

Tom Paine wasn't an atheist. He simply wasn't touched in the head and lunatic with religion. You're not fit to clean his house, much less impugn him after he's long dead. He wasn't an atheist, but so what if he was? And which Christopher Columbus do you post so approvingly there? The same Columbus that massacred almost a million Aztecs in the so-called New World and destroyed civilizations older than his in the 16th century? I guess he's forgiven. He's mumbled religious mumbo jumbo and you're satisfied. That's fine. Let him satisfy his God and explain away one million murders and all those atrocities he and his men committed on those natives.Voltaire! Told to renounce Satan and he says, This is no time to make new enemies! LWKMD. If he sought the mercy of God he's long gotten it, so don't worry yourself on his account, dear. And what do you know? Y'all have composed the last words of some people here. Lol. Carry on, carry on. You and noetic2 are worth your weight in comic gold.

Lol. Catchy toon. Nice. Doesn't pain and suffering have more to do with the immune system than 'Adam' and 'a fall' in some mythical garden though? Animals have an immune system and suffer pain too. Did a Cow Eve tempt a Bull Adam and they ate the forbidden fodder, and fell too?

Last words of atheists

M.F. Rich: "Terrible horrors hang over my soul! I have given my immortality for gold; and its weight sinks me into a hopeless, helpless Hell!"

Thomas Paine
"I would give worlds if I had them, that The Age of Reason had never been published. O Lord, help me! Christ, help me! . . No, don't leave; stay with me! Send even a child to stay with me; for I am on the edge of Hell here alone. If ever the Devil had an agent, I have been that one."

Sir Thomas Scott: "Until this moment, I thought there was neither God nor hell; now I know and feel that there are both, and I am doomed to perdition by the just judgment of the Almighty!"

Sir Francis Newport, the head of an English infidel club: "You need not tell me there is no God for I know there is one, and that I am in His presence! You need not tell me there is no hell. I feel myself already slipping. Wretches, cease your idle talk about there being hope for me! I know I am lost forever! Oh, that fire! Oh, the insufferable pangs of hell!"

http://www.darkfiber.com/atheisms/atheisms/deathwd.html
The last words of the atheist Mirabeau: "My sufferings are intolerable; I have within me a hundred years of life but not a moment's courage. Give me more laudanum that I may not think of eternity."

Gibbon, the historian, a skeptic: "The present is a fleeting moment, the past is no more, and my prospect of futurity is dark and doubtful."
http://www.southside-churchofchrist.com/basics/docs/lstwrds.htm - Jarrod Jacobs

Caesar Borgia: --- "While I lived, I provided for everything but death; now I must die, and am unprepared to die."

Thomas Hobbs: --- "I say again, if I had the whole world at my disposal, I would give it to live one day. I am about to take a leap into the dark."

Voltaire: --- "I am abandoned by God and man; I will give you half of what I am worth if you will give me six months' life." (He said this to Dr. Fochin, who told him it could not be done.) "Then I shall die and go to hell!"
Robert Ingersoll: --- "O God, if there be a God, save my soul, if I have a soul!" (Some say it was this way: "Oh God, if there be a God, save my soul if I have a soul, from hell, if there be a hell!"wink

These words are enough to make anyone wise

Richard Dawkins (born 1941)
Website | Wikipedia Entry

Richard Dawkins is an atheist British evolutionary biologist and writer who holds the Chair for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford. He has written nine books about evolution and atheism, including The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker, Unweaving the Rainbow and The God Delusion. In 1986, he wrote:

‘An atheist before Darwin could have said, following Hume: ‘I have no explanation for complex biological design. All I know is that God isn’t a good explanation, so we must wait and hope that somebody comes up with a better one.’ I can’t help feeling that such a position, though logically sound, would have left one feeling pretty unsatisfied, and that although atheism might have been logically tenable before Darwin, Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist.’

In 1996, Dawkins said of belief in God:‘By all means let’s be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out.’ In 1999, he said: ‘I don’t think God is an explanation at all. It’s simply re-describing the problem.’

The bold text there are for you who foolishly follow evolution. Those guys do not know what they are explaining. This guy is the son of Charles Darwin

Karl Marx: Passionate atheist.

Later in life, he wrote in his poem The Pale Maiden:

"Thus heaven I've forfeited, I know it full well, My soul once true to God, Is chosen for hell."

Could you believe that this man used to be a christian until he began to toy with socialism and ended up being a  ardent communist/marxist that hated God and his people with a passion.

Agreed.  The guy must have been crazy to deny God the way many people here on NL turn to atheism.

Karl Marx was a christian in his youth and his first written work was titled The Union of the Faithful with Christ.  Where he wrote the following words:

"Through love of Christ we turn toward our brethren who are inwardly bound to us and for whom Christ gave Himself in sacrifice. "

Whether this was head knowledge or he genuinely meant it I don't know but when he embraced socialism something mysterious happened in his life.  He became profoundly passionately anti-christ, it was then that a new Marx began to emerge.

He then wrote a poem with the following words:

"I wish to avenge myself against the One who rules above.  I hate all gods, I worship satan."

I wish all atheists on this board who used to be "Christians" before they began to teach them socialism and as a result they have now become the devil's advocate should learn from those who have gone before them if they are wise, and make amends before it is too late.

He used to be one in his youthful days, if that was really true because many people sneak in to churches unawares trying to identify with the church but all they have is head knowledge until they begin to declare what they really believe. This is why the Bible admonishes us to remember the Lord our God in our youthful days when we still have strength to serve Him because the days would come when what we have would be tested through the situation and circumstances that we confront and it is then that we will know whether we know Him or not.

Chuck Templeton: atheist.

At his death he said;

"Farewell God"

This is another tragic death of someone who used to be a christian, infact he started well with the famous Billy Graham and led many to Christ. Later in his life he wanted nothing to do with God or with God's people, he turned to atheism. What a tragedy. cry

Um, didn't Marx pen "The Paper Maiden" when he was in twenties? This is typical of several of the quotes that have appeared in this thread. If I remember correctly there's even a quote that is attributed to an atheist, and called his last words that is different from another attributed to the same person in another thread.

Don't behave like a dolt, you're becoming an adult. Jesus Christ is alive.
I mean, if you believe the Bible when it says that Jesus said something, you should also believe it when it says Jesus is alive, well, and alive forever.
