EFCC Recovers $1m From Badeh's House by Nobody: 12:31am On Mar 07, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered $1m cash from one of the houses belonging to the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh(retd.), The PUNCH has learnt.

Our correspondent learnt the money was recovered after detectives searched a mansion located at 6, Ogun River Street, Maitama, Abuja.

A detective at the EFCC, who did not want his name in print, said, “We have seized several properties belonging to Badeh. A few days ago, we returned to the mansion located at 6, Ogun River Street, Maitama.

“In the presence of several witnesses, including neighbours, we searched the house and recovered $1m in cash. The money has been lodged as evidence.”

When our correspondent visited the mansion on Sunday, the EFCC seal was seen on the gate, with the warning, ‘EFCC, Keep off!” written all over the fence.

The property, which is said to be worth over N1.1bn, is one of the five properties seized from the ex-defence chief.

Some of the properties were said to have been purchased, renovated and furnished for a son of the former CDS, Alex Badeh (Jnr.).

Badeh also allegedly bought a commercial plot of land at Plot 1386, Oda Crescent, Cadastral Zone A07, Wuse II, Abuja for N650m.

They were said to have paid N878m for the construction of a shopping mall at Plot 1386, Oda Crescent, Cadastral Zone A07, Wuse II, Abuja, and another sum of N304m to complete the construction.

The anti-graft agency also accused them of paying N260m to purchase a duplex at No. 19 Kumasi Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, for Badeh’s son.

The sum of N60m was said to have been paid for the renovation of the property and another N90m to furnish the property.

The retired Air Force officer also allegedly paid N330m to one Honourable Bature to purchase a duplex at No. 14 Adzope Crescent, Off Kumasi Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.

They were also accused of paying N240m to Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu to buy a semi-detached duplex at No. 8A Embu Street, by Sigma Apartment, Wuse II, Abuja.

They also allegedly renovated a private property at No. 2, Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja, with N62m.

In the charges, signed by EFCC’s Deputy Director, Legal and Prosecution Department, Aliyu Yusuf, the anti-graft agency alleged that Badeh removed the sum of N3.9bn from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force.

But Badeh had, last week, denied ownership of the properties seized by the anti-graft agency.

Badeh, who has remained in the EFCC custody since February 8, has been charged along with a firm, Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He is set to appear in court on Monday (today).

A source who doesn't want his name mentioned is certainly not an official statement from the EFCC.

When EFCC is ready they will state what has been recovered as it was with the AVM Amosu and Adigun's case.

For now I take this information as PDP propaganda as it was with the dollars found in the septic tank of AVM Amosu, but PDP tried to discredit the EFCC by saying the pictures of dollars in a plastic barrel was from a Colombian drug dealer.

EFCC never gave any official report on dollars in a barrel. The official statement clearly said dollars found in a newly constructed septic tank.

You will die of ulcer and heart attack due to hatred for Buhari and he does not even know you exist.

If you are not happy about reports of corruption cases, then petition Punch, Vanguard, Thisday, Channels, AIT and other media housed to stop reporting corruption cases. Tell them to censor all activities of EFCC, DSS, CCB, Police and ICPC concerning, investigations, arrests and trials of suspected corrupt individuals. Tell them all you want them to report is guilty or not guilty verdict after the conclusion of the trial. Also do petition the judges to conclude the cases within 6 months, do not forget to tell them that 9 months is too long to try a criminal case. You hero Jonathan was able to get convictions in criminal matters within 3 months.

Alex will surely have his day in court and definitely have his days in Kuje prison.

These guys were so daring during the last administration to the extent that they helped themselves to whatever they can get without fear of repercussions.

That shows they didn't have any regard at all for the Commander in Chief at that time. They were just deceiving him.

From the foregoings, it is very obvious that Nigeria needs a very strong and firm leader to clean the stables.

PMB is surely the right choice at this time. Though he is not an orator, nor exceptional in economic matters, his stance against corruption and his boldness is what Nigeria needs now. If we can achieve just 60% victory against corruption, the impact will be felt positively and most especially by people that do not have connection to the elite and high ranking govt officials.

PMB's own words is very apt viz "If Nigeria do not kill corruption, corruption will definitely kill Nigeria".

All this looters have almost taken life out of this country. Thank God for the timely intervention of PMB. It would have been only a while before the entire structure collapse on GEJ.

Are u for real?? There should be a clear divide btw political partisanship and the interest of the larger populace.

This country is filled with a lot of clowns who refers to people smarter than them as mumus and while ironically they are the greatest mumus. Does this look like a press release of the EFCC to u?? This is just a media organisation snooping around.

Why not direct your demoralising criticism at Punch telling them to shut up instead of dragging our law enforcement agencies into your mumuish comment.

Before, the hue and cry of pathetic folks like u is that they should go to court. Now the case is already in court and u are still whining "Get convictions".

Don't worry, the approach is a systematic one. The current administration is taking a systematic approach to try these cases. There is nothing to rush about.

Were all these guys picked at once immediately this Admin came on board?? No!

They were even left alone at their duty post for a while, before they were strategically relieved and then also strategically picked up for their atrocities.

A General that knows his onions does not do gra gra at the war front. PMB is currently waging a war at systemic and institutionalised corruption.

Others before him has failed at this and has been appropriately referred to as an 'ineffectual buffoon' by posterity.

The case has begun, but there is no need to rush, let all the pieces be put in place systematically, in order to get strategic convictions.

I hope u can see the way systematic victory is being won against boko haram elements.

At first when bombs were going off daily, myopic elements like u that lacks deep thinking capacity were all over the internet screaming.

Now that no bomb has gone of in a long time, your hypocritical voice has not been heard in that perspective.

Not too worry, when convictions start rolling in, you'll hear it with your own ears and see it with your own eyes.

PMB will not manipulate the judicial process to get a conviction, as losers like u will not allow us hear word.

This govt will play along and defeat the looters at the legal battles, and we the majority will support this war on corruption to the letter.

There is also another dimension to this, when the crackdown on looters began, there was a massive surge in bombings, after the govt increased its pressure and further tightened it's hold on the looters, all of a sudden the govt began to be able to curtail such attacks.

Nigerians are definitely seeing who the original boko harams are.

Keep on giving them tacit support, mother nature is surely watching.
