Lol, these guys didn't study moments (Physics).

If they did, they'd have positioned the cars differently.
but why on earth shud they use a hiab to lift a car, what is the weight of the car and den safe working Load of those hiabs in d first place.... Probably dey wia trying 2 cut cost, instead of getting a crane

There must be a scientific explanation for this....
Physicist
Engineers...explain
mechanics/theory of materials/structure: moment of force on cantilever. Example: Hydraulic (jib)... It's actually not the car that caused it; tho the car weight just initiated the torque that was ' on the verge'... Notice that the end of the cantilever that's away from the heavy duty vehicle is far heavier than the part closer to the vehicle. The poor design of the vehicle by the manufacturer and the poor calculation by the operators were actually the cause. The designer failed to add/distribute more forces to the part of the cantilever closer to the vehicle. This design failure moved the centre of gravity away from the vehicle( weight of the vehicle and the engine) to the end of the cantilever. The forces were at equilibrium, until extra force(weight of the vehicle) was added. The vehicle couldn't withstand the force at the other end; it had to ' torque'

TLDR:The towlers were supposed to add more weight to the vehicle(heavy duty) that is greater than that of the car; so as to counter that of the car, and the hydraulic designer was supposed to distribute the dead force of the cantilever towards the heavy duty or the engine would have been heavier

True... An engineer would understand not to make the first mistake again. The crane truck should have been positioned backing the river hence covering more ground to disperse the weight exerted. This just takes reasoning and common sense but they lack both.

there is nothing spiritual in it, the pple at the port are nt applying the normal lifting processes, the crane should not lift the car when it is In perpendicular direction if not bring more cranes it will still fall them, it should a moved backing the river which will not create room for the car to lift the craned vehicle
Thank you my bro. You took the words out of my mouth. Simply, it was just a positioning error of the trucks

A proper mobile/crawler crane with good lifting capacity should have been used instead of boom trucks which are normally used for light loads only.

Yes. You are on point. A crane with good lifting capacity, taking into consideration the safe work load (swl) should have been used not boom truck/hiab.

Ground conditions/stability to be considered too.
