He cant go broke. The man is a real Nigerian, using every means (legal and illegal; moral and immoral) to sustain his wealth

@Topic,
Though I don't dispute the fact that Aliko is going broke, I think the whole issue has been overbloated.A regular visitor to huhuonline's site will see that the site is purely an anti dangote site with loads of negative/mind blowing and at times ridiculous article about the man.
@Poster
Drop another source here and maybe I'll take the subject matter more serious.

Very interesting indeed,I know most Nigerian bizmen whose businesses have been killed by the scheming "chemical" Ali will be saying, the chicken has come home to roost and about time too and will offer him no shoulders to cry on

First of all, this is not America or UK, this is Nigeria; Bros Dangote may not be strong as ever, but he can not go broke. His foundation is damn too strong. He has enough for his great grand children.
Secondly, Dangote made his first mistake by making too much noise and also making himself available to be listed by Forbes magazine as amongst the world’s richest men.
Finally, Dangote has made it clear to all that he knows nothing about business and politics. He needs to brush up this area and get right back on the track or else he will become Nigerian Mike Tyson in just few years.

A DJ must also dance to his own music sometimes. This is what is going on with Mr. Dangote and he knows it too.

As someone said, 'Nature has a way of reconciling anomalies'. Was it not because of Dangote that OBJ revoked the license of IBETO so that only DANGOTE will be producing CEMENT. IBETO just got back his license wen d present Govt. came to power.

huhuonline sucks! The write up is jaundiced. No source and no serious serious research. Imagine the lie that Dangote is on the board of SEC as Vice President?

Pls, peeps, SEC has no VP!

Dangote is on the council of The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), not SEC.

I do not want to reckon with a source that cannot get facts right.  shocked shocked shocked

Re: Dangote Going Broke? by stagger: 5:08pm On Jul 21, 2009
This guy is not going broke. His business may have experienced a downturn, but that does not mean he is going broke. Just another sensational headline to sell a desperate paper or online forum.

Donald Trump was in debt to the tune of $10bn ($9bn business, $1bn personal). But he pulled out of it because it was just a downturn and when he pulled the right strings, he was good to go.

Dangote has a lot of basic investments on ground that can enable him recover from what is going on. However, he needs to clean up his act. There are a lot of stuff he has been engaged in that are not morally right. He should change his ways lest God decide to make him pay a heavy price.

Re: Dangote Going Broke? by Eziachi: 6:16pm On Jul 21, 2009
kokoA:

OK. 4 Reasons why Dangote can never be broke:

1. He has diversified his business to cover the production of different essential household products that people will always buy no matter what.

2. He does'nt manage his business by himself. He has hired capable expatriates to call the shots in his companies.

3. He is no a tribalist (like typical Nigerian business men). He ha evenly distributed his companies accross the the country, that is the character of a strong entreprenure.

4. The Nigerian government will no let him go broke, because if he does, Nigerian will suffer. And lots more
Only your number 4th point makes some sense, the rest is rubbish. Which part of the east exist his factory or business?

Don't talk so quick, were are the Abiola's bilions now?
When MKO was the nice boy of the khaki boys, who is Dangote and whatever he is now?
Nigerian made money don't always has a foundation.
Do you remember Alhaji Ado Ibrahim and Alhaji Hamza in the 80s, where are they now? Then, they were far bigger than what Dangote is today by two digits.

Anybody wishing away the enormity of the financial crisis looming in the face of Dangote has another think coming. This has nothing to do with whether he is going broke or not. From the posts of so many people here.it's obvious most people don't know the mindset and ambition of Alhaji, this man is obsessed with the desire to be or be seen to be the richest man in Africa and among the top 100 richest men in the world so anything that will alter that equation will seriously hurt his ego.

Secondly,is there anybody who wants to wave aside the effect of the mass exodus of his key staff and more importantly the reason for their leaving, boy that action is a massive indictment of the Dangote establishment?has it ever occured to you guys that Alhaji may not actually be as rich as he has made believe??With the Yar Adua government,Federal patronage is drying up fast (even the FG is broke, plus Alhaji has more enemies who are hawks in Aso rock than he has friends)

Finally, negative publicity is not good for anyone, don't ever underestimate the power of people's goodwill. With Aliko's fight with Femi came so many revelations about how Aliko had actually killed so many businesses in order to enjoy market monopoly, even to the extent of stabbing his hitherto friends in the back(some of us knew some of these things even when Femi and Aliko were eating from the same OBJ pot of porridge) like the case of the Tate sugar lady,Ibeto etc etc

It's not about ego or what he desperately want to be seen as, so many factors can turn a man upside down of which he has no control over it. If the United state can go broke all of a sudden and Iceland as country almost melted away, who is Dangote?

Re: Dangote Going Broke? by Gayigaskia(m): 1:34am On Jul 22, 2009
I'am not saying the guy will never be broke but not so easily. If that happened well for sure it must be a big disaster that occurred for all Africa because the guy owned many things throughout the continent. for those thinking he was giving free ride by OBJ well , that's how it is when you are good business entrepreneur you make things go your way. this happen in many countries even developped ones. Basically that's what lobbyist do in the west.
But beside Dangote was a rich man before OBJ came, and he worked hard for it and he came from a hard working family too. this is a little history of his mother's great grand fatherhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dantata

Re: Dangote Going Broke? by samparian(m): 4:16am On Jul 22, 2009
Dangote has been in bed with every government in Nigeria since the late 80's.

his wealth is a result of favourable government concessions to him.
The bann of specified products and issuing of import licence to Dangote gave him all the monopoly he needed.

He monopolized cement, flour, sugar which are some of the most essential commodities to people.

Give any fool the monopoly of just Flour for ONE YEAR and see if he wont make money.

Dangote is a brand and once the current government does not give him the usaul benefits he enjoyed in the past, his company MUST suffer because there will be severe competition.
Why do you think he threatened Fire and Brimstone when Yar'adua issued new cement import licences to 5 new firms.

For a Billionare like Dangote, falling to just being a millionaire is as good as being broke.

Re: Dangote Going Broke? by rasputinn(m): 9:03am On Jul 22, 2009
Just let the FG stick to it's guns and follow due process(not the way they're currently practising it on radio,tv & on d pages of newspapers) but issue more import licences for cement, sugar, flour and ensure a level playing field, stop all patronage to corrupt & ruthless businessmen like Alhaji;patronages which are to the detriment of the national economy, then let the NSE & SEC be alive to their responsibilities & put a stop to the manipulation of prices of quoted stocks, then we'll see who & who will remain on the Forbes list.
