Jobs/Vacancies › Re: 6 Reasons Why Discrimination Against 2.2 & 3rd Class Graduates Should Stop by 2emgee(m): 2:24am On May 21, 2015 |
I have a brilliant family friend who is a mechanical engineering graduate from one of the foremost federal universities in Nigeria. This guy incidentally graduated with a 3rd class after an extra year, you would wonder why ? he was a mere victim of religious circumstance and at the same time reaped the reward of being disobedient to his mother who warned him not to get involved in the school politics. This is a guy who has the best result in the class from 100L- 400L before contesting for the post of department president although he won overwhelmingly but was alleged to have ''stepped on toes''. The most pathetic part is that he hasn't been able to get himself a good job since NYSC 2009 though employers are always impressed by his transcripts and always ask him why he started excellently but finished so poorly even though he always prove his ability whenever he's put to test they always deny him based on the organization policy of minimum of second class lower |

Why blame the president for a community's poor standard of living? When such community has representatives both at the state and national assembly. That aside, what is supposed to be the core responsibility of a local government chairman? For God's sake Mr President cannot be every where that's why we have parastatals at various arms of government. Moreover federal government might have allocated fund for that project without it been implemented, federal government has enough national and international issues to handle, its those at the lower level of government that often show lack of concern provided they are not directly affected |

Science/Technology › Re: The Ozone Layer Is Growing Back by 2emgee(m): 10:31am On Sep 16, 2014 |
stingbreed: The United Nations finally has some good news about the climate. Well, sort of.
According to a report released by U.N. scientists on Wednesday, the ozone layer, which has been thinning since the late 1970's, is showing signs of recovery.
Scientists say that the implementation of the U.N.'s 1987 Montreal Protocol has contributed to a statistically significant increase in the stratospheric ozone layer, the thin layer of gas that protects the earth from U.V. rays linked with skin cancer. Thanks to the reduction of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) found in refrigerants and aerosol cans the ozone is predicted to return to 1980 levels by mid-century.
This will prevent 2 million additional cases of skin cancer a year starting in 2030.
U.N. Under-Secretary-General Achim Steiner heralded the monumental success.
The Montreal Protocol - one of the world's most successful environmental treaties - has protected the stratospheric ozone layer and avoided enhanced UV radiation reaching the earth's surface." Chemist Mario Molina, one of the co-authors of a 1974 study predicting ozone depletion, echoed this sentiment in an interview with the Associated Press.
It's a victory for diplomacy and for science and for the fact that we were able to work together." Okay, so it looks like a strong scientific consensus coupled with worldwide action can have an important effect on reducing negative effects on the planet, right?
Ironically, it turns out that the substances being used to replace ozone-harming CFCs are contributing to global warming, MIT scientist Susan Solomon told the AP. Greenhouse gases are repairing the ozone layer while simultaneously serving as one of the major causes of global climate change.
Fixing global climate problems is a two steps forward, one step back affair.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/ozone-layer-growing-back-172216682.html Just one of the importance of tree planting, apart from protecting your skin from the direct effect of the scorching sunlight it also helps in trapping some of the excess heat escaping to the atmosphere to further deplete the ozone layer, so when the govt says plant s tree they know what they mean and if u must cut a tree then replace it |
