kingphemy: Gurus in the house...

I recently updated my huawei 162g modem firmware but i noticed the following:

1. Before when I insert the modem into a PC it will automatically install the modem profile interface, in this case zain's, but it doesn't do so anymore. Which means I can't used the modem on a new PC.

2. When inserted into a PC that already has the zain interface installed, it open automatically before but not again.

What do I do wrong? Any solution?

The paper that DHL sent for the Customs Duty claim stated a higher value for the item and with several other fees like the 20% custom duty, another big VAT, another CISS, another intervention fee, and something else totaling N116,103. They said each charge is actually calculated on the total cost of the item plus cost of freight plus one other thing, that makes the total cost high before they will now start calculating each charge on that bloated total cost.

I have a question- is there any reason why nairaland cannot be made a subscription only site. Imo, there should be a fee to sign up and be a member here.

I believe the vast majority of posters can afford a modest monthly or yearly fee, afterall do we not pay for internet,recharge card, brazilian weave, makeup, etc.

The site has one million user ids. lets say the actual number of human users is 5,000. A fee of maybe N100 per month would equal a base rate of N500,000 before taxes.

That's N6,000,000 per year- on paper, this looks like a reasonable figure, the difficulties of implementing such a plan are what need to be tabled.( i suppose those include the risk of losing members to competitors who will cash in on the situation. Similar sites like facebook not charging for use, etc).

Like i said, i do not need a response, just dropping this because I'm not sure which direction the site admin want the site to go. Nl has been around since 2005, people use this place to launch their careers (some start from being made moderators), there should be a concrete mission statement of what the vision is.

arbitrage: My experience is not sweet currently. A N320k TV was shipped with $926 (close to N150k) and now DHL asked me to pay another N116,103 customs duty before they release to me or else they will take it back to govt warehouse.
