Go and watch Super Eagles of 93/94. It's on YouTube. There was more competition then than now.
As at TEAM they are far better than what we have. Individually they are also better based on their performance in GWG. We are not talking goals and assists only. Super Eagles of that era was not overrated. They were FEARED even beyond Africa.

Almost all our ex international where overrated

Most times I use to go and check their stats because of too much noise from people here and beer parlour folks ,but their stats are even hardly average

Please, we have too many defenders sitting on the bench and we don't need a forward to abandon his primary duties and start defending. This guy has been playing for SE for over a decade yet no improvements, no production. He has nothing more to offer. For goodness sake we have talents sitting on the bench.

You should be blaming Rohr and not Simon...Simon at club level is a strong offensive threat... Everybody knows that Rohr like his wingers to be defensively minded...Though in truth, Simon doesn't have much tricks up his shelves before, but his performance at club level proves that he can be a proper offensive threat if given the freedom...We all saw how it was at the AFCON when he was always tracking back to defend ...Yet he managed to provide two assists from corners... I'm really not his fan and will pick Onyekuru over him, but cut him some slacks please...

If you see some of them criticizing our current crop of players you may think these ex internationals were in the class of zizou,Ronaldo de Lima, baresi or even Gascoigne of this world

Even many of them wey core bench warmers in their various teams in Europe then

Joebie:
Did Ikpeba play as an AM, winger or striker for GWG?

He played as a striker but was mostly overshadowed by the cult presence of Yekini. Amokachi and Siasia were also playing at their very best , and competition was stiff. The quality of players we had when Ikpeba was playing for Nigeria is very superior to current ones.

yekini and siasia to bench him implies he wasn’t good enough

Receive sense

far better on what basis? Slightly better I will accept that but saying they were far better is just mere hype

First, I said as a team. There are Youtube videos out there for you to see what they brought to the team individually. Then you can conclude if it's hype or not.

I think as a striker and a left winger. But I could be wrong. He also had Amuneke to contend with if I am not mistaking.

ikpeba became an eagle around 94/95 while Siasia and Yekini retired in 94. So I ask again who were his competitors?

bro I no be pikin so no need of you referring me to YouTube to watch the teams clips when I had the opportunity to watch few of their matches during the 94 World Cup qualifiers, afcon of the same year and the World Cup proper

They have a better team and organization with few exceptional players like Uche okechukwu who was with bronby in Denmark then, a young oliseh from lierse in Belgium, jay jay Frankfurt, yekini setubal, finidi who I will say is the closest above average and siasia who was with Nantes then

It was after the World Cup performance that the door to bigger leagues and clubs were opened to few of the players

The team that showed alot of promise but didn’t progress as expected was the Atlanta 96 Olympic team that made up 80% of the 98 World Cup team

How many of them are equipped to play as wingers in a 442?

So as you dey watch this our team organization now you dey salivate? You say slightly better? I am not surprised you did not try to refute that SE in the mid 90s were feared beyond Africa.

Bros, opinion is like an asshole and everybody has one. The SE of 1994 was better than the current one by millions of miles, and so were the players.

My prediction was spot on
Actually very easy one

damagnificentusb:

You people Neva learn. Rorh hardly carries out wild experiments. it's very easy to predict how he will set up is team. I can bet my last cent that Rorh will play a double pivot of oyeka and aribo with iheanacho assuming the no 10 role on paper.

However, Ikpeba started against Spain in '98 and scored a breathtaking goals.

I have watched the eagles 93/94 a lot of times and they where good

I can list what they won. Abi this team has one something? Rohr has been the coach for about 5 years now just like Westerhoff.
You want to stay with GWG now or you want to go back to club level?
