Yes okocha is celebrated

Samuel eto made his mark ,eto was always better than okocha in all seasons he played ,forget trophy.

If you watch eto of Barca am not sure you will say this .

Eto is the greatest African player ever ,the football world know that ,so please stop bringing okocha near eto despite they don't play the game wings ,eto is miles ahead .
Eto greatest African player ? George weah not African player again ? George Weah won world best which Eto never win

U are wrong. In modern day football getting the 3 points is primary.Coaches go for players with end product.

Villarreal in their last 2 games have sacrificed beautiful football for survival.

Well, I see things differently. I'd applaud a beautifully executed rainbow flick more than a tap in goal.

Look at even his nominations. So sentimentally biased. None of the opposition party members made the list. This is next to Buharism. grin

Really!? Just pinpoint to the one that is sentimentally bias and I will explain to you my reason for nominating them.

Now, who are the opposition party members and why must I include them on my list? Explain.

To some Okocha is overrated but for me, he is underrated. Okocha was not only brilliant on the ball but he had the ability understand the game beyond the average players. He might not have achieved titles or played for the top clubs but his mark in the game will forever remain.

Former West Ham United United midfielder Kevin Nolan picked Super Eagles legend and former captain Jay-Jay Okocha as one of the most outstanding players he has shared the playing field with.

"I don't think in the past six to eight years that we've witnessed what this fellow did at Bolton when he scored that famous goal against West Ham United (after arriving from PSG in the summer of 2002). He kept us up,” Nolan told PL Today.

"Jay Jay was brilliant week in, week out. He was just unbelievable not just on the things he did on Saturdays (or Sundays) but in training. He made us better; you know he was going to do something special whenever he got the ball. He had people on the edge of their seats.

"You could see why he played for top clubs and he could easily have continued. I think he liked life in Bolton, being the hero. In training, he went past players. You will ask 'where is he’; the next thing Jay Jay was gone.”

Nolan shared former Bolton Wanderers’ manager Sam Allardyce’s sentiments about Okocha having been the best player in the English Premier League, even mentioning Ronaldo as being a rather average player compared to the former Super Eagles’ captain.

"All the players Allardyce bought, none was like Jay Jay Okocha. He could do all the things Ronaldinho did at Barcelona. He was the Ronaldinho of Bolton. He could do whatever he wanted with the ball. - drag backs, step over, he could make the ball sleep," Nolan expressed passionately.

Okocha many see Okocha as just a dribbling master but he was a midfield maestro and unlocked the game with his wisdom and deep understanding of the game.

Who else is worried about the dearth of young quality Centre backs coming through the ranks, with Balogun aged, Omeruo and Ekong in their mid twenties? Did u know the last time our youth system produced a Centre back that made it to the Super Eagles was in 2009, Omeruo? Of all the quality players paraded by both Manu in 2013 and Amunike in 2015, not even a single Centre back still has his mojo intact, they have all faded away, Bello, Abubakar, Zakari et al.

I have raised this issue before.

Not only Centre backs but even Full backs. The last LFB that rose through our youth system were Echiejile and Kingsley Madu. Stanley Amuzie was from U23. But where are Madu and Amuzie today?

At RFB, Musa Mohammed was given that position on a platter of Gold but he was found inadequate. Now asides Musa Mohammed who was the last Right Back from our Youths system? My mind can go as far back as Adefemi of the 2005 U20. It was lack of quality RB options that made Keshi convert Ambrose to a RB.

Dele Adeleye, Onyekachi Apam and Efe Ambrose were fine CBs that Siasia's 2005 U20 produced. Kenneth Omeruo (U17 & U20), Kingsley Madu and Wilfred Ndidi were defenders under John Obu's U20. And of course Ndidi was also a CB under Manu. But he now plays as a DM.

Largely Manu and Amuneke's defenders have not progressed well. Some of them u don't even hear of them again. Not even in the NPFL or NNL.

The onions now lie on Paul Aigbogun and the U23 coach to raise capable defenders (especially CBs) to immediately push for places in the Super Eagles. While we wait and see how Manu's U17 team will turn out. Else we are in for hard times in the defense.

Modified: Efe Ambrose was part of the Ladan Boso's 2007 U20 and then teamed up with the Siasia's 2008 Olympics teams.
