We need to change the way we play. Our playing style is too predictable and out-dated. Rohr should please do something

When Sir TheGoodJoe posted his possible formation for the Battle of ndola.. He did so largely with the team that executed the second half of the friendly but he used a 4-3-3.

I recall saying I immediately rearranged his formation into a 4-2-3-1 (a super variant of 4-5-1) smiley

I think Rohr favors the 4-2-3-1 but like I once said let the games against Zambia and Algeria be executed then shall we "truly" have a keen idea of Rohr's "central" and "most favored" formation.

That he favors 4-2-3-1 now doesn't mean he won't have to adapt or adjust depending on the opposition.

But yep... That 4-2-3-1 team that executed the second half is likely to be the team that starts in Ndola with the probable exceptions of one or two players...

Manager of Chelsea Antonio Conte who claimed that injury is the reason why captain of the Super Eagles John Obi Mikel is yet to play a competitive game for Chelsea under him is being economical with the truth, following Mikel’s performance against Plateau United in a test game.
The 29 year old Mikel will be out of contract this summer after 11 years at Stamford Bridge but he is yet to play a single game for the Blues, since leading
Nigeria to a bronze medal finish at the Rio 2016
Olympics. Before Chelsea’s last game against Hull City manager Antonio Conte claimed the Super Eagles captain is carrying a minor injury which has kept him out of the side, but judging by his performance yesterday,it appears there’s more to the reason why he isn’t getting games at Chelsea under Conte.

The Jos born midfielder, was introduced in the
second half by coach Gernot Rohr in the test game
against the first professional team he first trained
with in his career and, his performance was top
notch. Mikel twice came close to scoring with efforts that brought out fine saves from goalkepper Danladi Isah of Plateau United. Aside that he was everywhere on the pitch during the course of the game.
His overall performance didn’t suggest he was carrying an injury.

You are right, he can't stick to that formation in every games but that's the likely formation they will adopt at Ndola but it might be different selection.

Ahmed may not likely start.

Ahmed Musa:
The Leicester City big money buy was handed the
captain band for the first half team but failed to lead
like one. He lost possession more than any player in
the first half and was guilty of twice over hitting
crosses, that he ordinary should have executed
without flaws. Clearly suffering from a lack of game
time at leicester City.

Yeah.... I understand your question. Lemme spell it all out for you... Looollllll

Do we have a chance against Mahrez, Slimani the slayer, Feghouli, Brahimi, Ghoulam, Bentaleb, Guediora, Boudebouz, etc...??

On paper the Algerian attack of Mahrez and Brahimi on the wings with Slimani the slayer upfront and Feghouli playing as the no.10 is really deadly, about the best in Africa currently.

But again.. It's one game at a time... Let's finish with the battle of Ndola, then we can face the Issue of conquering Algeria's Fennecs (fennec foxes)... smiley

Besides... We also have a super squad. The only difference between the algerian golden boys and ours is "Experience and Longterm cohesion"... Ours is Africa's near-future Dominant side... Algeria's is Africa's current/present Dominant side. (IN MY OPINION, IF THEY FAIL TO LIFT THE AFCON 2017 TITLE, THEN THEY HAVE FAILED WOEFULLY... *CIV comes to mind before Afcon 2015*).

Hopefully, we find a way around it... smiley

MIKEL HANDS OFF SUPER EAGLES SET PIECE
DUTIES, GUESS WHO IS NOW IN CHARGE?

Newly appointed coach of the Nigeria senior
national team Gernot Rohr has from the look of
things handed the set piece duties of the Super
Eagles to a new player in the team.

Captain John Obi Mikel has been the one in
charge of the Eagles cornerkicks and freekicks in the last few years, but judging by checks made by Owngoalnigeria.com at the team training session and in the test game against Plateau United it appears there’s a new man in charge of set pieces for the Eagles.

During the course of yesterday’s friendly tie,
Manchester City teen wonder Kelechi Iheanacho
was the one taking the cornerkicks and free kicks awarded to the Super Eagles even though Mikel was on the pitch.

From one of Iheanacho’s freekicks, William Troost Ekong almost increased the Super Eagles lead over Plateau United with scores at 2-0 in favour of the team in the second half.

Iheanacho also took five corner kicks awarded to the team, one of which Brown Ideye almost got his name on the score sheet in the second half.

However it’s yet to be seen if the 20 year old
Manchester City man will be the one in charge of set pieces on Sunday in Ndola,
when the Super Eagles play Zambia in the 2018 World Cup Qualifying series.

It's official... There's no way Rohr will play Iwobi as the no.10 in a 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or other formations.. Or as the no.8 in a 4-4-2 or no.10 in a 4-4-2 diamond... WHEN "THE ALIEN KID" is around. smiley

That's not to say Iwobi isn't an option for such roles in the long run (pending when Iheanacho starts leading the lines... But Osimhen nko?? Nacho fit remain for that "behind the main striker" role ooo when Osimhen comes in...).

Anyway... This is the way things are now. Iwobi will do what he does at Arsenal. Drifting in stylishly and majestically from the wings and sometimes switching with the "behind-the-top-striker" player in Nacho.

Iwobi's kind of wing-play and his ability to play centrally also will bring more dynamism to the Super Eagles going forward.
......................................................................

ROHR PLAYING MAN CITY TEEN WONDER
IHEANACHO IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ROLE
FROM HIS POSITION AT MANCHESTER CITY

Manchester City teen wonder Kelechi Iheanacho
has been handed a different role by the coach of
the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr, which is slightly
different from his role at the Etihad.

Manager of Manchester City Pep Guardiola usually
deploys the Nigerian in the striking role, using
him as an alternative to star striker Sergio Kun
Aguero.

Iheanacho impressed in the role during Aguero’s
absence due to suspension and although he has
failed to chalk up sufficient minutes since
Aguero’s return. He distinguished himself with
three goals and two assist in the Argentine’s absence.

However for the Nigeria senior national team, He
plays just behind the main striker as witnessed in
the game against Tanzania and yesterday’s test
game against Plateau United.

He is part of a midfield three involving John Mikel
Obi and Ogenyi Onazi but he plays in a more
advanced role for the team where he has so far
excelled in games for Nigeria.

I see Guardiola using Iheanacho in this role because of his work rate. With KDB absent and Fernando not keeping pace with the team, Guardiola might decide to do this.

Iheanacho can help provide fluidity under intense pressure as he did in the game against Tottenham Hotspur. Dropping deep and helping the team play out from the back.

I still prefer him a striker. Although I have full trust in our coaching crew.

He did. You are not looking at the intense pressure we were under Tottenham and how difficult it was for us to play out.

The only flaw was the miss. His other shot was on target. That was not the area that impressed me. It was his dropping deep to help Fernandinho battle the intense pressure. We played better and created chances with Iheanacho, Sane and Gundogan.

Lawmakers Join Flight As Eagles
Depart For Ndola Saturday

The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed
Completesportsnigeria.com's story that the
Nigerian delegation to Sunday’s 2018 FIFA World
Cup qualifier against Zambia’s Chipolopolo will
depart from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International
Airport on Saturday.

The governing body have however added further
detail, including revealing that some members of
the Nigerian National Assembly, who have been
embroiled in crisis lately, will also be part of the
trip.
NFF officials confirmed on Thursday that the team
will arrive in time for an evening training session at
the Levy Nwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The NFF added that apart from the 23 players and
15 team officials that will be on the flight, there will
some top officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth
and Sports, some members of the National
Assembly, few members of the NFF Executive
Committee and Management, some NFF staff and
some stakeholders including media
representatives.
“We have allocated slots to some stakeholders
because it is a chartered flight and a number of
seats are available after the players and team
officials have taken their seats.
“The NFF is not paying anybody for being on the
trip. We don’t have the money. All the stakeholders
on the trip will be there simply to support the team
during the game. We have told the persons
involved that they will pay for their own board and
lodging, and they have accepted to do that,” said
NFF second Vice President Shehu Dikko.

Dikko, who is also Chairman of the League
Management Company, told thenff.com: “In the
near future, we would look at the possibility of
commercializing this kind of opportunity. If you
give out, say 80 seats, to persons who can pay for
them on 145 –seater aircraft, you can raise some
good money for the team. It is a practice firmly in
place in some climes.”
