Eguavoen has displayed one of the poorest tactics I've seen in world football. How can you go for an away match to a strong team and you focus more on attack with four attacking players at the detriment of the midfield? Even one of the 2 midfielders bonke isn't too familiar with the team, so basically Aribo is running the midfield alone.

Moses Simon is beginning to see himself as Messi and he has been spoiling this game.

That AFCON hype has really gotten into Simon's head...

This is the time for the coach to make tactical changes. The midfield is obviously weak and dominated by Ghana. There is need to bring in midfielder - Onyeka, and Dennis. Remove all those players who want to dribble instead of a counterattack. Ghana is under pressure to win and they will come out, a good counter-attack will give us the needed goal

Make dem play am as striker or drop him. The guy contributed to gernot Rohr sacking.

4-2-4 against a team this is huge in midfield..
I was curious to see how it would play out. The first half says it all. The big question, will he realize and adjust?

the first 30-35 minutes were for Ghana but I think the last 10-15 was Nigeria in the ascendancy. So because we finished strongly in the 2nd half, the coach might want to keep the same formation. Though I think our midfield has been porous.

The first thing the NFF should do, if we’re lucky to qualify, is get a real coach. Eguaveon is useless and clueless as a coach. No game pla, no tactic no system. Just keep pumping balls forward and hope for the best

Philosopher1979:

Frank onyeks should be in midfield while atibo will play 10 in front of onyeks and bonke. Dennis can replace chukwueze.

Eguavon is getting his tactics wrong.
Nigeria has a serious coaching problem since westerhoof left.
Maybe the present coach of Ajax yrn hag can help.
There is no difference between Eguavon and rohr. Good players but bad coaches. I am tired. Our football administrators should work on our coaches.

Exactly.

Iheanacho's clinicality and finishing is not enough to keep him on the pitch. Na when he see chance him go score.

Remove Iheanacho for Onyeka. Push Aribo forward to play behind Osimhen. He's making the runs into the Ghanaian box, what Iheanacho should be doing but isn't.

This substitution has the benefit of adding an additional player in midfield and solidifying the midfield and defence too.

Remove Chukwueze, bring in Dennis.

Is Eguavoen tactically astute to read the game and make these changes?

I doubt it. Eguaveon no be am

The problem is with his intelligence. Not everyone can sit to watch and track football in detail. They just want to see a goal and when they don't, they look for any random player to blame.

You start hearing nonsense about midfield and defense, completely missing the point.
It is usually on matchdays we get to see how the people hidden behind the monikers are in real life. grin Nigeria has so much nagging men JEEZ!!

For the Second half: Iheanacho and Simon should give way for Dennis and Lookman. And I’d like to see Bassey come on for Sanusi as well.

Hahahaha! Dey said we played badly at the AFCON because Osimhen was not there. grin

Now that Osimhen is there let us see the miracle he will do with dis AE pattern of play.

Shukusheka said he has been sharp and energetic though...... LMFAO!

I hope AE doesn't. Because Addo is not sleeping. He will come up with something tactically at HT. So Eguavoen needs to be proactive.

The Ghanaians are wailing that Partey never came through first half. Thanks to Balogun for stopping that slick pass from Partey. I hate that the coordination is depending on luck kinda. AE definitely doesn't love midfield control. All those misplaced passes....

Seems they are closing Simon down but he's putting in the effort to do something but it's not working.

I saw Osimhen tryna ginger his teammates to come press. E be like baba no know say na 2 midfielders dey behind him. grin AE dey fall hand.

Onyeka and Dennis are dribblers too, and won't solve our current midfield woes. I wish Iwobi was available for this game, he can easily rotate the midfield and wing.

AE has a very poor record as far back as 2006 of making tactical changes at half time. For someone given a second chance after 16yrs, I'd say baba is reflecting what our local coaches really are. Bad rep mehn.
