Which South American jinx? To the best of my knowledge, we schooled Brazil in 2005 with Mikel's team under the tutelage of Samson Siasia,

That game ended 0-0. And that remained our best result against any South American team at that age level till yesterday.

I said totally dominated. Dominated in play.
And what exactly does that mean? How many points does that equate to?

I have never seen parked bus as tactical football.

In Atlanta 1996 when we met a star studded Brazil, we went toe to toe with them. We did not stay cramped in our box.

I am 100% dominant football fan.

You can only stand toe-to-toe with your opponent when you have players with equal abilities with your opponents. Nigeria were the underdogs going into that game. We needed to remain compact ensuring we don't concede, which will keep us in the game and then hit our opponents when they lose possession of ball and importantly take your chances. That was the tactics played yesterday

Longevity comes with style of play. You play a pattern that will keep the team improving. How do we improve by siting in the box?

Do you realize that it was Argentina that we just played and not Tunisia or Morocco.

As na Mancity be our team na. Or we fit go employ Pep for this team so that him go buy the players wey go fit make Nigeria dominate all matches. grin

You think we don't like our team dominating opponents? But there are certain games you accept your team being dominated but you still get the desired result. You wan to go dominate a free attacking Argentine team playing in front of their home crowd. Super Eagles fit don dominate and beat Argentina in any world Cup before?

Even the most possession playing team sometimes defend if the meet a more pressing team Manchester City vs Briton first leg man city defended for the most part of the game which cause their keeper to assist Halland Goal.

We dominate C.A.R for lagos them use defense and counter attack shut our mouth.
If football is all about the dominating team winning at all times would it not be boring?
Imagine Nigeria playing France at the senior world cup Final match….wait wait wait oga blue pen, u will be expecting Nigeria to play tikitaka and to dominate france…e be like say until world football powerhouse spell NIGERIA before your body go calm down

Dominating possession is not the same as dominating a game. If the team you are playing against came prepared to play most of the game without the ball, celebrating that you have the lion share of the ball is a fools gold.

Possession on its own is the most useless statistic in football.

What a time to be alive.

Nigeria knocks out Argentina in their very own backyard. No ojoro this time around.

I am sooooooooooooo HAPPY! kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss

2005 is history now.

Credits to Ladan Bosso and his boys, they played to perfection.

And as Ladan Bosso said, the mindset of the players was the key. What a result.

Change this your ojoro mentality

The boys won with hard work ,if they had made any silly foul in the 18 box they will give argentina penalties and people like you will blame it on ojoro

i jus went to watch the match highlights again on FIFA website, they started the highlight from second half of the game and it started with Nigeria chance of hitting the woodwork off a coner kick run of play…meanin that all their yeye possessions in first half was nothing to write home about…Nigeria really surrendered the midfield to them and allowed them enjoyed their status as host and upper hand in football…but when the real deal came we showed them pepper 🌶

A team cannot have a tactic of let's hope they don't score. Lol

The game plan today was clearly to stop the Argentine players playing triangles at the edge of the box so they can resort to crosses and shots from long range! As they attacked, our defensive positioning was to show them there was an easier route to progress the ball through the flanks, but doing that meant they had to cross the ball (which is exactly what we wanted) or recycle play by passing back to the halfway line.
They did not win a single free kick on the edge of our box and that's what they thrive on when playing against physical teams like us.

Whilst executing that tactic we also had excellent holdup play by both players who played as no.9 following delivery from the keeper. This helped the team move up the pitch easier and with less risk than always trying to pass from the back. The personnel in this team is perfectly suited to counter attacking football and I think that explains why they were a bit rubbish against Dominican Republic.

Bosso has proven he is now a tactician, his confidence going into the game also must have rubbed off on his players.

oga you wanna compare the level of preparedness we took on italy and also with argentina to that of brazil, and by the was is 2-0 ripping to shred? even with some yeye changes we made it took them late in the game to score their second goal…if brazil meet us at this knockout stages they cant best us more than 1-0, them selve will see flames of defending football…forget that dead rubber match dey played with us
Even the dead rubber we hit the bar twice so we could also attribute it to luck

My take,
We really tried.
I think some of us forget that we are playing not just Argentina but at their backyard. Going toe to toe against a side that boast of players already plying their trade in Europe could have backfired.
Some fail to realise that even against Brazil, the Brazilians played counter attacking football which is all part of tactics.
Which would we rather have, win with ugly football or lose with beautiful football?
Please note that Ghana went to the world cup with Ugly football and SE watched the matches from their homes.

my fear now is playing Ecuador or Korea, because according to football pedigree and record credibility those guys cant be compared to Brazil,Spain,Argentina, Germany of this world, Nigeria will wanna come out and be forming domination like how our Blue pen bros is clamoring they should play…and trust me Ecuador/Korea go use counter attack finish our life if we dare loseguard on the so called domination some people are expecting from our boys
