I found these and saw it as very interesting. Some may argue Rigobert Song over Lauren for Cameroun but everything else ticks. Now who are Nigeria's Best/Greatest/Finest ever Defender, Midfielder, and Attacker?

TheSuperNerd:Defender - Taribo West Midfielder - Austin Okocha Attacker - Victor Osimhen Oliseh should be there but Jay Jay takes it. |

TheGoodJoe:Osimhen hasn't won quarter of the titles that Kanu won for club and country. Osimhen hasn't had any major impact on any international tournament comparable to Kanu's Olympics heroics. |

TheSuperNerd:Chairman Muda Gangling |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 2:19pm On Nov 27, 2024 |
Solid list. Taribo West. Hmmmm. Well, he had probably the best club career among our defenders. But I hope you know defenders include Fullbacks too. Midfielder.... a strong argument here for Okocha. Very valid too. Still the most talented midfield player out of Africa hands down! Striker... wow. This is a surprise. Osimhen over Yeking?? Well. I respect your list. Maybe in 5 years, I will agree fully with Osimhen as Nigeria's greatest striker. But for now, Yeking for me. TheGoodJoe: |

Another strong list. Christian Chukwu was a colossal figure at the back for the Green Eagles now Super Eagles. A huge presence at the back for Rangers and Nigeria and good on the ball. He and Keshi are probably the defenders that commanded the most aura in the GWG. Muda Lawal... a legend of the Nigerian Middle game. Led Shooting Stars of Ibadan to Continental glory (First Nigerian clubside to succeed on the continent) and also starred in Nigeria's first Afcon triumph. Muda was a midfield General and scored some iconic goals too. Gangling Rashidi Yekini... The greatest striker of Nigerian football without question. In 5 yrs from now... we will all come back to this question on "Nigeria's greatest striker ever" and I am sure a different answer will emerge undisputedly by then but for now, Yekini it is. TheSuperNerd:Well said Dr. To be honest, I was being mischievous with the first 2 names but they are absolutely great players. The greatest defender for me is Stephen Keshi. Starter very young, actually revolutionalized our football when he was forced out of 9ja, he opened the doors for others to join. However, the reality was there were other Nigerians who had played abroad before Keshi, yet it was Keshi who was most instrumental in getting our players out. A Nigerian who was captaining Anderlecht in the 80s!!! Respect big boss!!!!! Not that I watched Muda, but he played in so many ANCs and I read he was quite good!!! Of course, Oliseh and Okocha are ENIGMAs. Notable mention is Papilo!! Mathematical Segun Odegbami!! Taribo West, Uche Okechukwu. I would also say Ricky Owubokiri, didn't do much for Nigeria but men, as an individual, he was phenomenal. |

Quite funny people mentioning Osimhen ahead of Yekini Osimhen yet to win anything tangible with the super eagles those who watched yekini will know he is far ahead of Osimhen |

Valid argument for Stephen Keshi. Okocha. Another valid argument. He has contenders in Mikel Obi, Oliseh, Muda Lawal but in terms of pure talent, he was indeed the most gifted and most popular of them all. Osimhen. I get it. It is your pick but I think Yeking owns this crown even now. waffiboi: |

TheSuperNerd:Taribo was to win the African footballer of the year before the Kanu's famous three goals against Chelsea. For a defender to reach such heights, I place him above Celestine Babayaro. |

Indeed a strong valid case for Taribo West. He was our truly first World Class Defender. Probably our only since then? Have we had any other World Class defenders, be it center backs or fullbacks? TheGoodJoe: |

GMBOFASIA: I believe when rating the best player, club football plays a big part in rating the player's quality. We can't tell Mikel's story without Chelsea or Kanu without Ajax or Arsenal. We can't talk about Ademola without his hat trick against Leverkusen. |

TheGoodJoe, you guys need a Rodri stand-in by January. This can't keep happening else Man City will become Cartegena.

For me I'll go with Uche Okechukwu - one defender I love his calmness in defence, his built Mikel - For me this guy should be Nigeria best midfielder, club and national team career , won it all, no other come close. Yekini - for still holding that top scorer record and for the fact that I don't consider Kanu a real striker. |

Amedino99:Lol. Until Osimhen wins an international tournament for Nigeria (contributing decisively in the competition), we can't compare him to Kanu. |
