Former Nigerian striker Emmanuel Akwuegbu has expressed his desire to see his son play football for Nigeria instead of Austria.
He also appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation to invite his 15-year old son to feature in the age grade team while speaking with reporters.
“I would love my child to represent Nigeria because that’s his fatherland, he is very skilful and scores great goals. He is just 15 and plays for the youth team of FC Wacker.
“He is a striker who can also play in the midfield, he’s got all it takes to play for Nigeria and I know he can start from the youth team to the highest level, if he keeps working hard. He can play up to the Super Eagles.
“My son Chimezie Sean Akwuegbu is just 15 and I have made him realised the fact that it is better for him to play for Nigeria and he loves the idea and I made to also know the joy it brings to wear the colour of Nigeria as a player and at his age he is looking forward to that.
“I am happy with the current NFF board which has opened doors for Nigerians in diaspora to come and play for Nigeria. I will be glad to see him play for my native country, Nigeria.
“My only regret was the injury that denied me the opportunity to play for Nigeria during the Olympic qualifiers in 1999, for Sydney Olympics and this one reason I want him to play for Nigeria.
“I remember my elder brother Benedict made us proud playing for Nigeria and I know Sean will do better in this generation because of the facilities he was exposed to from a tender age and I don’t want Nigeria to lose him the way they lost Alaba to Austria.
Chimezie Akweugbu, has played seven times for Austria U-15 team scoring four goals as a striker.
He has also played games against Bayern Munchen, Dortmund, many English team, Spanish and Italian top teams in Europa youth tournaments.

Why was Balo spared? He hasn't been getting game time too. Good wake up call for KC. Disappointed Chuks wasn't invited though. We need to shore up that midfield. Semi Ajayi is a defender, it's high time Rohr started trying new guys in the midfield, we are really bare in that dept.

Wow! Never expected to see Onuachu there, but it's good.

There are still doubts about Aina and Etebo though. Idowu and Nacho dropped. Nice development, no one should have a permanent space reserved for th in the team, they better work for it.

According to the BBC report I read, BBC described him as a defender. Just like Van Dijk scored two goals less than two weeks ago. But then again you might be right and BBC wrong.

Apparently there is another Nigerian defender in semi ajayi's team Michael Ihiekwe, has anyone seen him before?

Also do you know that Phil Jones and John Stones have sometimes in their career played as makeshift DM? Even Fabinho and Fernandino recently played as makeshift defenders, my point is let's go and search for midfielders we don't need makeshift ones. Shehu should be moved to his natural zone too of the midfield instead of calling him a defender.

interesting list sad to see KC miss out but no sentiments he's been poor. hopefully this motivates him to get back to top form. abit surprised with samuel kalu's inclusion considering what he's going through at the moment.

congrats to paul and valentine on there invitations

it's confirmed unless something monumental happens osimhen is going to the AFCON rohr rates the boy.

seems rohr has his squad set for AFCON expect only 3-4 changes when final squad lists for the tourney come out.

The honest truth remains that, if we parade these set of players at the AFCON, then there's high tendency that Nigeria will crash out very early. grin

I wouldn't take Rohr serious until I stop seeing names like Daniel Akpaeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa on his team list.
We definitely have better goalkeepers than those two.

Onuachu replaces Iheanacho.

Valentine Ozornwafor replaces Brian Idowu. Meaning 5 CBs out of 8 Defenders. Well, Omeruo and Balogun can play as make-shift Full backs if the need arises.

Mikel missing. Why Rohr? undecided

With all seriousness I wasn't being sarcastic or trying to pass a savage remark. Based on the highlights Tbaba shared when Rotherham conceded their goals I was wondering why Ajayi was positioned the way he was, which I thought was faulty positioning as a defender so he might have very well played in the DMF position that day or at that time.

Mikel Baba Ejima is probably managing himself and it seems this nations cup might be his last appearance for us. I think Rohr should check out these guys again, esiti, osayi Samuel in QPR, Mikel Agu and Agbo. Like Charly said maybe it's time to ease out John Ogu from the team.

why Akpeyi? Mikel will probably be in Afcon so it is advisable we ease him out gradually. Will really like to see Agu and Agbo .
