Lol, don't lie Iwobi is no regular, he's a bit part player at best and you need to check comments from Arsenal fans what they really think of him, you'll be humbled., Mustafi and Xhaka are also crappy players and they start from time to time. You really need to stop acting like everyone who plays in Europe is some Pele or something

Our league is made of crap players and yet many players from the continent have used it as their springboard to Europe. Your Emenike played in our second division before moving to Europe, check how many players in the Afcon come from our league, your number goalie also plays in our league as well and you have the guts to downplay it

There are myraid of reasons why our players don't move much to Europe. Some of our players refuse to move to countries like Greece, Turkey , Belgium etc because SA clubs can match them in salaries. It is to the detriment of our players but it's one of the reasons . We still have talent across Europe though, Photo, Dolly in France, that Leshabane boy at Leicester, Foster at Monaco, we have Mathews at Borussia Dortmund etc, it's just that Bafana coaches have not alway chosen the right players

Another lie, Egypt doesn't have a lot of players in Europe, only Salah and El Neny play for reputable European clubs the rest are home based dominated by Al ahly players , in fact North Africans have always boasted national teams dominated by home players while Algeria"s players surge into Europe' s big time is a recent phenomenon

Dean was playing in English league one so what? Don't act as if Nigerian players play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern et al. Odemwingie was playing at Rotherham not long ago as well and some of your players could be found at backwaters such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand etc. Football is football, this European fixation is boring. Zambia won the Afcon with a team dominated by PSL beating a star studded Ivory Coast led by Drogba

Lastly, the fact that Tau was loaned by Brighton has nothing to do with his footballing prowess but has all to do with red tape. The team that Tau plays for is owned by the same owner that owns Brighton so since Tau can't play in the Premiership owing to permit issues it only makes sense that he plays for this team, they wouldn't buy him if they weren't interested in him. Would a Premiership directly buy a player plying his trade for Kano pillars to begin with?

Iwobi is competing against Ozil, Mkhitaryan Aubamayeng and Ramsey outwide and in the middle. Let's not pretend like he wasn't great at the first half of last season.

You're using Tau bossing the Belgian second division as a means to prove he's better than Iwobi when Onyekuru, Moses Simon and Osimhen have done the same at the FIRST division?

You probably only come here to troll because if you've gone through this thread - you'd see that Akpeyi isn't rated that highly and it's a common consensus that goal keeping is where we need to work on. If Ikeme didn't retire - Akpeyi wouldn't be first choice. He was 3rd choice at the world cup and is only starting because Ezenwa is injured.

This isn't the 2000s fella. The PSL is weak and I dare you to name 5 players apart from Serero and Mothiba to a certain extent who have gone straight from the PSL to boss a top 10 league in europe? Didn't Ekisten Pule just move to Azerbaijan? Are you trying to say Azerbaijan pays more? Why didn't he move to England like Mabiziela did back in the day? Andile Jali went from being a big dog in pirates and couldn't perform that well in Belgium.
The only player I can agree that could've moved from the PSL but didn't because of pay and his club fucking him over in the last decade was Teko Modise.

Iwobi is two years younger than Tau and is playing at the highest level.

According to your logic, Mikel "happened to play in a good Chelsea team to be honest". So what does that make Mikel? Would a good Chelsea team sign him up and use him regularly if he is "nowhere as good as we make him out to be"? Bro, Tau is not a bad player. But for now, he should be excited to take selfies with Mikel and hang them on his wall. cheesy

IronGalaxy:
Not only South Africans have made such claims, even your own countrymen on this very thread. You Nigerians are very sentimental.

I think you guys don't understand what the word " overated" means. By saying Mikel is "overrated", I by no means saying he is a bad player, he is good but nowhere as good as you guys make him out to be. He happened to play in a good Chelsea team to be honest and his time there was characterized by a lot of back and sideways passing even Steven Pienaar was far superior at Everton.

Tau was poor in the first game, yes but the whole South African team didn't show up against the Ivory Coast. He was MOTM against Namibia. Iwobi has been Europe for a while now but also yet to provide himself

@ players playing in Cambodia Thailand etc, that's true they are Nigerian but they are not super eagles players. Osaze @ Rotherham don't know if he ever played there but if he did it was after retirement from national team duties

I know it’s way to early, but as of now, the three overage players I’ll pick for next year’s Olympics would be Ahmed Musa, Balogun and Omeruo - based on current form. I’m also imagining what a Dream team’s attacking trio of Chukwueze, Onyekuru, and Osimhen at would do to opposing defenses in Japan next year. tongue

Seems Zambia won the afcon with players based from South African league what are you guys waiting for ? Zambia players are good that's why and you guys are crap ,lol ,when it's footballing matter you really need to keep your mouth shut

Iwobi is a bit part player ? Lol ,a bit part player can't play 34 Epl games in a season out of 38

Nigeria players are not playing in Real Madrid but please which African players are playing in Real Madrid Barcelona ? Lol ,you can't hide the fact that you are dumb ,if it's xenophobic attack now you will be brave enough

Egypt still have about 8 players in Europe in their afcon squad

Epl clubs have bought players directly from academy's in Nigeria so Kano pillars can't be an issue

You can't compare Nigeria players to South African players ,the last time you have players to be proud of are Aaron mokoena, benny McCarthy, pienaar ,one of your best players tshabalala had to move to turkey league at the age of 34 ,lol

South Africa football is crap ,you hosted the World Cup and you could not even get past the group stage ,lol

Odemwingie was playing at rotherdam at the end of his career age 35 ,odemwingie did well in the Epl with west brom and was popular ,he played for 3 Epl clubs ,it will be a pleasure for a South African player to play in the championship at a young age

Seems our players can be found in Cambodia and co then please tell me when we took a player to any tournament from such place ?

You think this is about country issue where you and others jobless South African can sleep in nairaland arguing with Nigerians ?

This is footballing issue and you have no say okay ,lol

Man city did!!! And it was from an academy.
I would not even put up a debate when it comes to football players of both countries. South do have some players but for some reason they struggle outside the league. May be it is time for them to step it up a notch and prove doubters wrong.

Have these pairings been confirmed? Man! A possible Nigeria VS Senegal semi final pairing is going to turn this thread upside down grin

U guys have been using this excuse of having a better league in Africa to defend your player's inability to secure move to decent clubs in Europe! .. The best leagues are in Europe! The Belgian league is among the top 10 in Europe, and yet their national team is filled with foreign based players. Its not like Belgium can't find better players in their league, the best of their players are playing in better leagues. simple!

Benni McCarthy is the greatest south African player ever. didn't he play in Europe!?

South African players aren't talented enough that's why they don't get signed by European teams... Simple!!

double standard
gamaliel9:
AFRICANS EE....Why is no one criticising yesterday s COPA matches in which there were no goals and turn around to criticise AFCON in which also there were no goals

What a mentality

Is it not strange that all the teams that played yesterday recorded goalless scores.
