I will forever prefer fela even though am not from his tribe, I have very few Nigerian songs cause of what the op said, even most foreign music have a message to pass, no love by Eminem is my favorite...

The only assurance the likes of 2face Idibia , Timi Dakolo, Dare Art Alade have is the longevity power their works have. The songs will out live them for sure. The likes of Olamide and Davido can’t leave a valuable catalogue for their descendants as inheritance because nobody would be buying any poo from them in 50 years.

This is one of the worst piece of sh*t ever written on social media! By your logic we are to believe that songs like African Queen and You're not the girl would outlive songs like Bobo, Dami Duro and Melo Melo even though there's no evidence of this whatsoever. I think the OP placed too much importance on artiste like Timi Dakolo. Even the great 2face has some crappy songs that won't make it through 50 years. All in all, it's okay to criticize but let's do so objectively!

While you have some valid points, but you got it wrong the reason why it's so.

The degradation of content by our musicians is exactly the same thing going on in our education sector, politics and government. The society is in decay!. These things you've noticed are just symptoms of decay as our schools and society at large churn out people without moral and intellectual credibility.

Most especially, our radios and TVs (also victims) promote anything as long as you have the cash to promote your songs. It's the radios and TVs that made them popular, not their songs. For instance, I have recorded far better songs with quality contents than anybody around, but aren't associated with a record label to get it to the radios where it could be heard.

Talking from experience.......

Egbon OP, there's no diff between the lyrics of foreign songs and that of nigerian songs....just that ''americans'' use english and nigerians mostly use pidgin english and their dialect. Shikena!

I disagree with you on Olamide. Baddoo has some of the deepest lyrics in the game. Those of us who were lucky to grow up in Lagos and understand Yoruba appreciate Olamide's lyrics. Go listen to Abule Sowo, Melo Melo, Anifowoshe etc. Get someone who understands Yoruba to interpret for you. Its not even debatable walahi.The same way you will never appreciate Phyno properly if you don't understand Igbo - Go get the interpretation for 'connect' (like I did) and tell me if those lyrics are not at the very least decent. I won't argue to much concerning Davido but the kid got some badass swag/understands what women love to hear- that's why he is popular.

For me the best Nigerian vocalists are Asa, Simi,Qdot, Brymo and Blackmagic. I know Americans/Europeans who don't even know where Nigeria is on the map who listen to Asa like crazy. Brymo and Blackmagic are the best male vocalists in Nigeria by far - if you disagree, name one Nigerian vocalist who can hold a candle to these guys. While I agree that Tuface lyrics are well done his vocals are child's play when compared to these two guys. So who is to blame for Tuface (a vocal baby) blowing up and Blackmagic/Brymo not blowing up? Think about it.

So do I listen to Olamide, Wizkid, Davido, Phyno, Lil Kesh, Burnaboy (go and listen to Soke)? Yes. But don't assume we also don't listen to greats like Asa, Blackmagic, Brymo. Nigerians are far more musically intelligent than some of you music analysts give them credit for.
