How I Got Robbed Of 15k Cash Unknowingly (need To Be Alert In Public Vehicles) by HazzanTazzan(m): 8:30pm On Apr 25, 2016
After a long and stressful day in my MSc class today, I decided to hit the bank and withdraw fifteen thousand which is meant for purchase of a new battery for my car.
A classmate dropped me at the bank around 3:30pm and i went in to withdraw. Got out of the bank in 30mins, crossed to the other side of the road to take a taxi.

THE SCENE:
I stopped this taxi which only had the driver and an occupant in the front seat. I wanted to enter the back seat but the driver said I shld sit with the guy in front cos he wanted to carry ibadan passengers actually so I thot "no problem" (note: this was a normal abeokuta taxi cab).

THE DRAMA:
I entered the front seat with the other guy beside me and closed the door then the driver moved and told me the door wasnt locked. I opened it and closed it, he said it wasnt still locked, tried about 2 more times while he was telling me I shld press the lock button and unluck again.
All the while, the guy beside me was there and i didnt even notice whatever he was there doing until he offered to try and lock the door which after he did, the driver said the door was finally ok.

OPERATION CONCLUDED:
We were about to concentrate on the short (1mins) drive to my destination when the driver said "osiele is 100 naira" and i responded "I didnt call osiele, im going to conoil" which is much closer, then the driver said he was not going and the other guy supported by saying "the driver is actually going to ibadan and Its only osiele passenger that will favor him" which I didnt object to.
So I dropped and immediately got the next taxi coming behind.
Right after I got into the new taxi, I remembered the 15k I had kept in my pocket and it was all gone.

THE HUNT:
I told the driver to help overtake all the vehicles ahead and see if we cld get the former taxi but we cldnt get them after overtaking abt 8 vehicles.

THE CHASE:
I quickly dropped and took a bike to trace the taxi much ahead but I cldnt find them after going a distance they cldnt have covered.
That was when I realised that they must have turned into another route away from that straight route leading to ibadan.
It then dawned on me that they were never going to ibadan and all the drama of "door not locked" was just to distract me while the guy beside me operated on my left pocket that was close to his right leg.

MY REGRETS:
It was a very bad day for me as I felt so silly, loose and un-alert.
Its just a month ago that i lost 22k to a scam here on nairaland and here is another case of loss.
Now theres no buying of battery for my car for now and id just hope for God's provision before i can budget any other money for the battery as it will be wasteful to hit the bank for another 15k budget on the battery in this period of dropping revenues from biz...

LESSON:
Always be alert in public vehicles and use your intuition to put 2 and 2 together when driver and passengers and saying things which could distract you.

NB: pardon my typos, if any

So sorry my friend. This people have been using this method for a very long time. 2010 in Enugu, they used this method to collect my wallet from my handbag while struggling to close the door. After struggling for a while, the driver said he can't drive with his door bad while carrying me and the other person at the front. So he suggested I take another taxi. I came down not knowing what has happened, but the moment the car drove off, I sensed something just happened, by the time I checked my wallet, my money was gone. And to think that there was a breastfeeding mother sitted behind me as part of the gang was alarming. Thank God what I had in my wallet was less than 2k.

For this critical "change" period na hin u dey loose money like that? On top say u be student join! I suspect u are too loose and careless, u always trust everyone around you, which is bad. Try as much as to always suspect everyone's move, especially when you are in the public, it will help you a lot, it will also make you to be conscious of ur environmen at all times.

You must have learnt some lessons by now as they say experience is the best teacher!

Did I call u an underaged?
Student na student whether u are a kindergarten or Phd student, even when u are not in. Any institutionn this life itself is a school where everyone is a learner.
I wrote all that from what I deduce from ur experience, when u said

"Its just a month ago that i lost 22k to a scam here on nairaland and here is another case of loss."

no insult meant
