I think custom duties on imported phone for personal use is illegal.

See this judgement of #5m against custom for similar unnecessary extortion in the name of duties.

I think this situation is different.

Even EU countries pay custom duties only that they pay along with the shipping fee for DHL goods unlike us.

If you have bought from Amazon you will see that you pay for Shipping, Tax and Duties which can rise to over $200 depending on what you are buying
