Update ur phone to the latest version..
Mine did the first time,I factory resetted it and it resumed after 2 days..
I then had to factory reset again and update to MIUI 12.0.7 and it hasn't happened again since

The contacts are probably on your email. Try delete them from there.

U can download Google contact app and delete from there. Make sure the app is in syn with the Google account u have those contacts saved in. If problem still persist then I think u may have more than one account in phone that re syn together.

Open your Gmail app and click the menu on the left, then scroll down and select contact. Click the 3 dot and delete..

You have synced your contacts with several accounts. You have to delete one by one.

Since you have deleted from Gmail, try to delete from mi account
