Honestly, It's getting increasingly difficult to stay
calm amidst policy somersaults, gaffes and blunders
this present regime daily load us with.
The level of it's unpreparedness is being made
manifest by the way the economy is being handled, it
appears after all that the party in power was never
ready to govern.
Given the massive goodwill the party and it's
principal garnered, one expect words/promises to be
matched with purpose driven action(s) but we see
actions without purpose, we see reactionary
leadership instead of visionary/''CHANGE''
leadership hitherto sold to us.
In lay man's terms, we see a trial by error
leadership laced with plenty wobbling and fumbling...
One cannot fail to ask, HOW DID WE GET HERE?
The Blame Game
For starters, Let's blame the last administration for
taking ineptitude to ''enviable'' heights forcing
majority of the populace to pledge their future to a
concoction of strange/questionable bedfellows.
Let's also blame this present government for
coveting power at all cost without actually having
what it takes to rule.
Let's conclude the game by blaming ourselves for
expecting too much too soon...
On Subsidy,
Best Decision, Wrong Timing, Wrong Implementation,
Wrong Framework...
Subsidy on fuel has been a scam in this country from
time immemorial, it's a cancerous cell that has eaten
deep hence the need to tread with caution while
expunging it.
It's expected that a responsible government should
have strong/robust palliative measures in place to
cushion the adverse effect of it's removal but sadly,
we are yet to see any from our government.
The Way Out,
The government needs to-as a matter of urgency-
relax the Central Bank's hold on the forex market,
we need to shift our economy from it's
contractionary outlook to an expansionary one.
The economy needs to be stimulated and gradually
diversified, state of emergency must be declared on
power, security, agriculture and capacity building.
Entrepreneurship should be encouraged while small
and medium scale enterprise should be given ample
environment to operate and thrive,we need to take
bold and calculated steps outside Oil...
The president needs to be told that while the fight
against corruption is good, it's not the only problem
facing the nation.
A general waging a hydra headed war needs to
formulate strategies to fight at all fronts the same
time to guarantee victory.
The nation needs him to be here and active.
And on the fuel saga, the government needs to go
back to the drawing board before it's too late.
For now, #LetUsPray...

Buhari's economic policies are indeed ''anachronistic and opaque.'' One cup of rice is now one hundred naira and a bag sixteen thousand. Too bad. |
