After spending 25 years exploring for hydrocarbon resources off the coast of Lagos, Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum, in partnership with Panoro Energy ASA and First Hydrocarbon Nigeria (FHN) Limited, among others, finally catapulted Lagos State into the league of oil and gas producing states in the country.

Panoro, an independent oil and gas company based in the United Kingdom, announced wednesday that oil production had commenced from the Aje oil field located in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 113, offshore Lagos, on Tuesday, May 3.

Of greater significance also is the disclosure that the oil field holds untapped reserves of about 650 billion cubic feet (bcf), which if harnessed in two to three years’ time, according to a company source, could supply Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, all the gas feedstock it needs for the thermal power stations and other manufacturing concerns domiciled in the state and its environs.

Summary of Independent Assessment by Schlumberger

· Ororo Field (Ondo State) hydrocarbon in place estimated at 35.2- 44.1 MMstb (P50 - P10 oil-in-place).

· Seven oil bearing sands (D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, F and G) were identified in Ororo-1 well.

· The P50 - P10 Recoverable Oil from the single Ororo-1 well estimated at 10.0 MMstb - 12.8 MMstb.

· The Ororo-1 well flow tested at a combined production rate of approximately 2,800 barrels of oil per day (bopd) from two oil producing sands.

· Ororo-1 well contains 125ft true vertical thickness (TVT) of net oil pay.

· The P50 - P10 Gas Initially In Place estimated at 396.5 - 557.6 Bscf with Recoverable Gas of 276.9 - 390.66 Bscf (P50 - P10).

The above are just a fraction of what obtains. And I think the FG and both states should look into the opportunity that the incessant restlessness of militants offer -- it's an 'opportunity', and I'd say "take it".

I couldn't agree with you more OP. Our days of being held hostage, sabotaged and blackmailed by militants who disrupt much needed gas flows to power plants are about over with this find.

Urgent alacrity must be applied to move this part of the nation even higher.

No doubt!

At the minimum, even in the near term, it can quickly get Lagos off the national grid if the laws are amended as proposed, and that's a lot if Lagos' weight on the national grid can be shed off.

There is a flaw in your thinking ,anyone can blow up pipelines anywhere in Nigeria and paradoxically that is why I am against negotiating with militants.Fulani herdsmen too can blow up things it is not brain surgery. One doe not need to be an indigene anywhere to destroy things .If Fulani herdsmen have taught us anything it should be that. The fact that it is hour homeland means nothing so non indigenes can blow up things in Lagos too

My fear is that the south keep bringing out her resource for sharing with the North while the North controls the decision making process of whole resource sharing. The North will be happy to remain dormant n feed off the south if it isn't forced to bring significant resource to the table. They can decide to oppose 13% derivation fund or its increase n the south will just be looking on like they are doing in Fulani herdsmen situation.

Theoretically possible, practically less doable especially recurrently (in 2014 alone there were over 3,000 pipeline cases of vandalization and most of them in the ND creeks . . . I don't see how recurrent pipeline assaults can be carried out without the locals compromise). Throw in the fact that new pipelines laid now are implementing a totally different pattern, and implements updated security technology.

OTOH, while Fulani herdsmen incidents and pipeline vandalism are both acts of terror, they are so dissimilar in many ways.

They are realizing their folly in that, and are taking steps lately to get productive. ATEOTD, it is their loss in the grand scheme of things.

It is not about having oil but rather what quantity of oil do you have? The SS states of Delta, bayelsa, rivers and akwa ibom still accounts for more than 95% of Nigeria's crude oil supply. The crude oil found in lagos and ondo combined is not even up to 20% of the quantity in akwa ibom alone

LOL.

Nigeria's total crude oil reserves for Brent/light oil = 37.2 billion barrels (current estimate).

Nigeria's total Bituminous/heavy oil reserves = 42 billion barrels (current estimate).

Ondo state alone has over 31 billion barrels of 'heavy oil' and roughly 3-5 billion barrels of light oil reserves . . . making it the state with the largest oil deposits in the country by a long mile!

P.S. This article is actually about gas reserves. And the gas reserves between Lagos and Ondo states alone is more than enough to power half of the country for probably a 100 years @ 99 kWh per Mcf (1,000 cubic feet) of natural gas

IF LAGOS AND ONDO HAVE ALL THESE RESERVES, SS AND SE ARE SAYING...WE ARE HAPPY FOR YOU PEOPLE BUT CAN WE NOW DIVIDE NOW? THEY WILL REFUSE BECAUSE ALL THESE RESERVES FIGURES ARE A SHAM...TO DECEIVE SS AND SE THAT THEY HAVE OIL AND GAS TOO; IN OTHER WORDS, SINCE WE ALL HAVE OIL, LETS CONTINUE ONE NIGERIA. SS AND SE...YOU NEED TO THINK DEEP AS THESE PEOPLE ARE FIDGETING WITH SERIOUS NUMBERS HERE AND PLAYING PSYCHOLOGICAL GAME

Bushman, try and read up on oil journals. Stop wasting your life hating and moaning on social media. Do you imagine that the day you open production from an oil well is the day you get to the maximum possible? Do you know how many more sites can/will be discovered in that area?

How many barrels did Nigeria start with in 1953 @ Oloibiri?

You will soon die of hate and jealousy. If folks like you were in Ghana or Kenya, they would have been praying that the oil finds there didn't materialize.

Don't cry yet. Its only a small water bottle they showed there. Wait until they bring a drum to display in your shop. You will do the wailing proper there.

Real 'bushman' I swear, he doesn't know oil discovery is 'fluid'. And even before the Oloibiri discovery, oil was first discovered in Araromi, in the Ilaje community of Ondo state in 1908.

Even the SS who own this oil you want to die over don't harbour this hate and bitterness that wants to kill you. You don't see them going all over social media spreading this much negativity because GEJ lost an election. They've since moved on. Instead, its you the houseboy crying louder than the home owner.

Just be patient...... When the projects start, you'll remix your wailings
