Na wa o! Then why haven't we had refineries like dis since for over 16yrs? At least these ones are far cheaper dan conventional ones. Kai Nigeria!

Myopia, greed, and corruption.

It's 'cheap-easy', but they make it seem like rocket science.

if true then a very welcome development. Long over due though. Let more even be approved if possible, it will create even more jobs in future just like mtn glo etisalat, etc in comm industry gave us.

God bless Jonathan wherever he is for launching this project cool cool.

Kudos to Buhari for continuing the legacy. He doesn't seem to have a problem with Jonathan's policies/projects... Nice one.

See as Amaechi rush commission ABuja/Kaduna railways line. Fashola has already admitted Jonathan built more roads that previous governments. Buhari is coasting ahead with TSA, another brainchild of Jonathan.

Sad enough, the momentum is not replicated in the agricultural sector. All in all, government is a continuum.

Jonathan frustrated his own program because Dieziani kept putting obstacles in the way of these modular refineries so that importation can continue . Modular refineries are not even too good for the environment.

The above is my grouse with Buhari. As a military person with oil and gas background, these are plans he should have concluded with companies even before the elections (win or loss . . . he can still chip in that bit as a patriotic Nigerian). I am not in government, but I know few companies that could set that up in 3-6 months.

If the president were pragmatic enough, knowing this refinery thing is the heartbeat of the nation, we should have had at the least, 2-4 modular refineries working in full throttle as we speak.

Many young people just pose rubbish. Buhari will compel a business man who has sense to invest millions of dollars on a refinery and be ready to ship it to Nigeria when he defeats an incumbent President on the continent of Africa.
We know Nairaland is for young people but not think8ng before posting just brings standards down .

Do you even know the operational strategy of most modular refineries?. The only ones that are profitable must be close to an existing big refinery or pipeline carrying crude oil, otherwise you have to move crude oil by barge or road tankers or rail. Very expensive unit costs for a low margin business. A lot of them don't use advanced catalytic crackers so the yield is low for such a high unit cost. So maybe profit is very very low.

The big failure is the NNPC and Buhari is right. In the 1970s and 1980s the NNPC was so sophisticated they could tell you the demand for petrol in 2050 and show you the plans and contracts for expansion of existing refineries and the building of new ones that will satisfy that demand. Now with PDP everything just became buying and selling

All this your points listen about is the reason why jonathan supported still bleed in their heart today. Thanks for being honest enough to admit anyway.

Why government people no fit talk without adding salt and pepper to their tory. Installed capacity of all refineries in Nigeria is 440000 bpd do you mean 4 modular refineries can refine 210000 bpd. I hope say him know say modular refineries no dey get that kind capacity. Again last time I checked Dangote's refinery would refine 650000 bpd not 750000.

For me I feel all major oil marketers should as a matter of urgency set up this refineries that will feed there filling stations across Nigeria
Because the only way to make profit with this small refineries is upwards integration business idea
U refine, use ur own truck to transport, sale at ur filling stations

This really makes business sense, the oil marketers would not want to invest Idue to the credit they enjoy from purchasing the NNPC fuels at the depot.A serious minded marketer would have taken this initiative and instal a low volume modular refinery to atleast supply 30% to its outlet and in same vein put in place a medium/long term strategy to achieve 100 % supply to all its outlet .

Your contribution is among the best I have read on this discourse so far
