I have noticed that many ijaws are suffering from an acute Igbophobia.
I have stayed around them before.
It was the white man that helped in creating ijaw tribe because you people are not ethnically related even the Kalabaris, Nembes, etc see themselves as a distinct tribe.
There is no central ijaw language unlike the Igbo and Yoruba language.
So change ur mentality and say no to tribalism.
This is how Igbos arrive at historical facts about themselves and others:

Step 1): Imagine a thing that feeds their peculiar case of historical grandeur mirage.
Step 2): Come out in public and assert it as a prof would assert a fact.
Step 3): Repeat step 2 until the folly therein has been exposed.
Step 4): Start from step 1 all over again.

You don't know the dominating role Nember, Kalabari, Bonny etc played in pre-colonial trade in the south-south because historically, you are an illitrate

Now let me help screw your mind back unto reality again.

Look at my sources on the issue below, which of course I had already been educated on as a matter of recognized necessity when growing up.

It just happens to be that when making any claims, to avoid giving the impression to serious minded folks that you are a lunatic breathing out whatever he thinks, credible sources must be cited.

What is your response to what all credible history says:-
1). About your being sold as slaves to almost all the kingdoms of the south-south?
2). About the white man's need to create paramount chiefs for you in order to make indirect rule work for him?
3). About the fact that the white man had to pay taxes to the kings of Bonny, Kalabari, Nembe etc, in order to do business in their territories?

so this is how little your pathetic i.q is?
Slave trade happened in almost all africa, the fathers/mothers of the yorubas slave descendants in brazil were taken from Nigeria.
2) Igbos or Ibos or Igbos have been mentioned many times before the colonizers came, e.g Oluduah Equinoh biography work.. There is no mention of ijaw in any precolonial article.
3) Arochukwu, Nri, Nnewi, Onitcha practised monarchy before the white man came but the rest of the Igbo clans praticed a Republican style with an Age grades system.
4) Igbo influence is felt outside Nigeria and Africa but ijaw begin and end in the poverty stricken creeks..
Igbo-ukwu is the second oldest civilazation in Nigeria, is there any well know ijaw civilization?NONE
5) we are proud that indirect rule failed in Igbo land, many wars of resistance against the british was from Igbo land.
6) even today, Obi of Onitcha, Igwe Of Nnewi, Ezearo of Arochukwu and Asagba of Asaba are more influential, respected and popular than any Ijaw mushroom monarchs..
Don't drag me back to this ur dumb thread. Thank me for a little lesson i just taught you.

Coolscott at it again.

Anyway, no one ever said that Igbani is Igbo language.

We know Igbani as the minority language spoken in Bonny villages by Ijaw people there, and Ubani Igbo as the Igbo language spoken by Igbo descendants who inhabit mainly Bonny township.
There are no Igbo descendants in Bonny Township any more except those who have come in recent times in search of greener pastures just as the place is full of Hausas and Akwa-Ibomites today.

Every Igbo man that got bought into Bonny as a slave and who was not sold unto the whit man's ship, and who did not die in the interim, had his head shaved in public, in an open ceremony in which he denounced wherever it was he came from and took on a the new identity, pledging fealty to the Bonny kingdom and none other.

With their mouths they confessed fealty (loyalty), and agreed to be symbolically shaved in public as an open display of their new sworn loyalty.
In that ceremony, they were even given a new name (just like Kunta Kinte was renamed Toby) which they publicly accepted as they fell in line into their newly accepted identity.

And please, the population of Bonny people living in the regions of the kingdom outside the capital, are more than the ones living in the capital. Just as the the population in Abuja is far less than that of the rest of Nigeria.

I know you do not have these books so I a have put up screenshots here.

We do not say that there aren't any records of the affairs of Igbo clans, villages or in some cases, kingdoms. Just please let us see the credible sources that show us the extent of the strength of their influence. And let us also see how they happen to be Ijaws or how Ijaws happen to be them.

Honestly, it is not bad for threads like these to continue. It helps to create a distinction between respect for knowledge and just confident ignorance. I trust every neutral observer can spot the difference.

so I have beaten you blue and black in your other profile "Oboy3" so you signed in with this one.
1. Before the white man came, Arochukwu Confederacy was very influential and powerful in the whole lower niger area, it is documented.. No ijaw mushroom kingdom was influential.
2. Before the white man came, there were people who beared the name Igbo in their names and villages like Igboukwu, Igbouzo, Akwuku Igbo, Igboeze, Aro-okeIgbo etc
is there any pre-colonial ijaw village that beared the name ijaw in it.
That means that your mushroom ijaw tribe is a pure colonial creation.. Everyone knows that.
3. In achievements, you people should go and compete with the Urhobos, Itsekili,
We are Not your mates pls in any ranking.
4. Even today, Obi of Onitsha, Igwe of Nnewi, Eze Nri, Asagba of Asaba, Ezearo of Arochukwu etc Are more popular and respected than Any ijaw mushroom monarch.
Is there any popular ijaw king in Nigeria? NONE, Mr minority.
5. Igbos had an ancient Igboukwu civilization, second oldest in Nigeria, is there any ijaw civilization known? NONE.
6. We are not your mates pls.. Shoe get size, go and look for ur size.. Even in the next 100yrs, you people will still be a minority tribe that exist in a poverty stricken creek.
I do not hate your ijaw tribe, hate is not in me for God is love but you guys are taught to hate Igbos during childhood and I will never give you that platform.

Shaking my head.
Why don't you show documented proof of your ancient civilisations? I have shown here how Kalabaris, Nembes and Bonny people sold Igbo slaves to the white man.

It is everywhere how we collected taxes from the white man in order for him to use our water ways. Show us the expression of your own organisation/power.

What were your own activities?

See how you are displaying your own ignorance of your own history. The only Igbos that sold slaves where Igbo middlemen catching and buying Igbo slaves from igbo land and selling them to the Ijaw kingdoms, which in turn sold them to the white men's ships.

The igorance of this generation's Igbos about even their own history is alarming.

The slave storage houses where Igbos were kept in some Ijaw kingdoms still exist.
Records of slave trading between Ijaws and white men have been kept for hundreds of years and still exist.

All the records of slave trades in the world from anywhere and anywhere, if it has igbos in it, depicts the Igbos as the slaves or hinter land middle men, but more as slaves.

So you don't imagine wishes into being facts of history.

It is not the fault of Igbos that they were sold as slaves by their own brothers and Ijaws.

If it was Igbos living in the south-south region, the white man might have done business with them, getting whoever was in the hinterland to be sold as slaves.

But somehow, they found themselves in the hinterlands and Ijaws found themselves at the coast, and there was nothing anyone could do about that at that time.

And I hope you know that the from
i. the white men who engaged in the trade,
ii. to the Ijaw people who bought and sold these slaves,
iii. to the Arochukwu Igbos who specialised in transporting and selling their brothers off to Ijaw land

all participated in human wickedness.

Why do you want to lay claim to a piece of that wickedness?

By the way, Jaja was a slave bought by Ijaws into the Ijaw Kingdom of Bonny, and who passed through the public hair shaving ceremony in which he renounced wherever he came from and swore loyalty to the kingdom, and also accepted a new Bonny name.

It will be interesting to know what your imagination told you Jaja brought from the outskirts of Nkere from where he is said to have been captured by slave hunters

It is important to note that the slaves who got their heads shaved in the induction ceremony were the ones whose owners spared from "the journey of no return" on the white man's ships.
Also, it is because you are powered by ignorance that you do not know everything worth knowing about Nigerian history.

An opobo Man posted this when asked why opobo speaks igbo

Opobo is igboland founded by an igbo man , yes! Part of the grand design to severe the Igbo ties is not unconnected with the long kingship tussle that greeted Opobo at the demise of her last Amanyanabo.

As we all know, there was a gang up by some chieftaincy houses of Ijaw origins in Opobo to unseat the Jajas. But after 30 years of legal battle, the Nigerian Supreme Court, on the 23rd of April, 2003, ruled that “Opobo is not a traditional town as we know it. It is a Settlement founded by King Jaja, and remains his estate and that of his descendants” Led by the legal giant, the late Chief G.C.M Onyiuke (SAN), the Jajas' authority over Opobo was permanently signed and sealed.

It was after the landmark ruling that the family established a foundation in honor of their patriach and quickly appointed Anyim Pius Anyim, the then Senate President, as the life Chairman. Thus, the success or otherwise of de-tonguing Opobo - from Igbo to Ijoid Ibani - will largely depend on the acceptance of the Jaja dynasty.

Opobo was founded on Igbo language. And King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, the man I saw at Peter Obi’s farewell gathering at Awka, does not appear like someone who would play with history and tradition.
Opobo is one settlement that will be difficult for revisionists to undo as all documents signed by King Jaja himself on behalf of his estate were well secured. And which helped the surviving off-springs reclaim their father’s settlement in the Supreme . Therefore, it is only the Jaja family that can determine the cultural identity of Opobo.

In August 2014, at the Elekahia Stadium, Port Harcourt, Hon. Dakuku Peterside representing Opobo told the “unification” gathering of Ohaneze Ndigbo that “I’m a full blooded Igboman….My town, Opobo, was founded by an Igbo, the mighty King Jaja...”

Which opobo man said this....liar post the recording where Dakukubie(which means fathers heart in Ibani)

amInigerian:
Due to the lies told by the south easterners that the indigenous people of Bonny are Igbos, I have taken it upon myself to permanetly expose their fraudulence here by spitting out here a plethora of Ibani nouns and sentences with their English meanings, challenging any Igbo claiming that the Bonny people who bought them as slaves and sold them to the white man became Igbo people by giving some of them their freedom, instead of the other way round which is that the slaves that were brought into bonny and granted their freedom through prescribed ceremonies by the Bonny kingdom, ended up becoming Bonny people.

Oya. How do they say "Come and eat" in Igbo.?

In Ibani it is "Bo ye fi"

Please other Ijaw people, let us hear how you say come and eat in your own language.

Luckily, many non-Igbos know the Igbo equivalent of the sentences I will put up here so I see no place to hide.

Oya! How do they say "Come and eat" in Igbo.?

In Ibani it is "Bo ye fi"

I will be happy if Okrikas come and put their language here.

Or Andonis

Or Ogbia people

Or Nember people

It will shame the fraudulent away.

Nothing bad in shaming them as they have shown that it takes a little more than normal to get them ashamed of a shameful act.

olaitoro:

my dear dont be daft, go and the meaning of intelligible.
I know even in your yoruba langauge, there are dialectic variation.

infact ekiti yoruba and ijebu yoruba have variances that some folk still doubt if they are yoruba dialect.

I stay in SW so I am not guessing.

You just have to drag Yoruba into your stupidity. You and who is doubting if Ekiti and Ijebu are Yoruba?

At least every yoruba understands wa, lo, ounje, omi, etc.

Yoruba dialects are intelligible only tonal variations. If you are from ogun or Lagos you would understand Okun or Ekiti or Ondo dialects if you could listen carefully. Only lazy folks say they don't understand. It's only tonal variations.

I'm not from ogun but I could understand Ijebu, egba, ijesha, Ondo itshekiri without even learning or living in those places.

So face the topic.
