– The secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal used the fuel scarcity issue to get Ibe Kachikwu to stop exchanging pleasantries and settle down at the FEC meeting on Wednesday, May 18

– The minister of power, works and housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola says there is fuel in the country

The minister of state for petroleum resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu was today, May 18, slammed by the secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal over the current fuel crisis in the country.

President Buhari presides over FEC meeting
The Punch reports that Lawal took a swipe at the minister at the council chamber of the presidential villa, Abuja shortly before the commencement of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Prior to the meeting, the SGF was finding it difficult to get the ministers to stop exchanging pleasantries and settle down ahead of Buhari’s arrival.

Realising his efforts were futile, Lawal announced that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was already seated and that the ministers should settle down.

When that also failed, the SGF looked round and saw Kachikwu shaking hands and discussing with a colleague.

He said: Kachikwu, there is no fuel and you are there shaking hands.”

This made the venue erupt in laughter.

However the minister of power, works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola also replied Lawal, saying, “There is fuel. It is N107.”

In another development, the federal government has raised an alarm that the country is broke and her economy shrinking, Daily Trust reports.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, disclosed this on Wednesday, May 18, while answering questions on the new fuel pricing regime shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The minister said the hike in the price of petroleum from N86.50 to N145 “is not about subsidy removal. It is about the fact that Nigeria is broke. Simple!…The economy is shrinking.”
