I want to roof a detached bungalow in Abuja. The supplier of the aluminium longspan roofing sheet recommends 0.55mm thick stepped longspan but a friend said the recommendation was unnecessary waste of money, that 0.45mm thickness would do for a bungalow. Experts please advice before I place the order.

I will go for the 0.55mm thickness due to the fact that it is better quality than the 0.45mm and weigh a little more and better insulation. Less noise when it rains and helps cool the house. 0.45mm is the minimum you can go.

0.7mm & 0.9mm for a residential bungalow? Wont those require steel roofing and therefore more suitable for industrial and warehouse construction?

In addition to what Ajileko said on 0.45mm & 0.55mm, I noticed you mentioned longspan step tile. Note that this will consume more wood for purlin than the box (straight) type because the recommended spacing should be like 30cm instead of 90cm for box type to get good finishing
