Its been proven again. The best historical secrets are revealed when the Royal fathers bicker or jostle publicly (often on newspaper pages, and in the legal courts) for power, or for the throne . The current race to wear the Bini crown sees a Bini version of history agreeing with Yoruba history . This version has Oranmiyan visiting Benin and establishing a new ruling house, as the Yoruba have always maintained. By the way, Oranmiyan, was a grandson ofOduduwa, the great Yoruba warrior king deity. His father was Okanbi, Oduduwa’s only son Oranmiyan was one of 16 grandchildren, which are named in this partial family tree . The Yoruba hold that Oranmiyan bore a son with a Bini woman, and this son was the first Oba of Benin. More recently there’s been a new and controversial claim from some Bini quarters that it was the other way round and Oduduwa was a runaway Bini slave who founded Ile Ife, and who later sent his son/grandson to rule in Benin!
“The Ekiokpagha treaty is the compulsory rent a new Oba-elect must pay before he is pronounced an Oba of Benin kingdom and before he is also allowed occupation of the Benin kingdom leased to Oba Eweka 1 by Ogiamien Erebo in 12.00AD.” “The Ekiokpagha treaty clearly defined the status of Ogiamien as aborigine and permanent landlord while the Oba of Benin kingdom as a permanent tenant,”
High Chief Monday Wehere, director of information and external affairs of the Ogiamien family said on Tuesday.
“The Ogiamien is the custodian of the 32 previous Ogisos that had ruled Igodomigodo and the aborigine Binis for over 300 years before the forceful introduction of obaship against the decision of the aborigine Binis while the Oba of Benin (the family) are descendants of the sixth Ooni of Ife, Oba Oranmiyan, the son of Okanbi. “Therefore, it would be difficult for Ogiamien to pledge allegiance to an invader – Oba of Benin – who is also a tenant,” “Oba Eweka dynasty has no relationship whatsoever with the Ogiso/Ogiamien dynasty and they are now forcing themselves into our dynasty by fraudulently claiming that Prince Eheneden Erediauwa is now the 70th ruler of Benin kingdom.”
“This is completely false. THEY ARE DESCECEDANTS OF ORANMIYAN ,” In bolded above is what the Yoruba tradition has always stated. The practice of sending the heads of demised Oba of Bini to Ile Ife was apparently stopped in a bid to hide the history it has been claimed . History can never be re-written.

– Ogiamien family insists that the Oba of Benin signed a treaty that made him a tenant
– Royal family adds that the Oba’s family are from Ile Ife
– Accuses the Oba family of distorting history

The Ogiamien family may have created a major controversy with its recent stand that the family of the Oba of Benin are tenants in the kingdom who were given a special privilege by the Ogiamien family.
There has been a seeming unending supremacy battle between the oba’s family and that of the Ogiamien.

As preparations commence for the installation of Eheneden Erediauwa, the crown prince of the kingdom, that long rivalry has again reared its head.
This time, the Ogiamien family are kicking against a report, weeks ago, that allegedly paints them in bad light and seems to give the oba an edge over the family which claims to be the original owner of the traditional institution in the state.
The aggrieved family said the oba exists based on a treaty agreed to by Ogiamien Erebo and Oba Eweka 1 and formally adopted by Ogiamien Ode and Oba Ewedo in 1255AD.
It reads that every Oba of Benin had complied with this treaty.
Oba Erediauwa who just passed on, according to the family, also complied with the treaty after it was re-enacted by Ogiamien Osarobo Okuonghae in 1979.
“The Ekiokpagha treaty is the compulsory rent a new Oba-elect must pay before he is pronounced an Oba of Benin kingdom and before he is also allowed occupation of the Benin kingdom leased to Oba Eweka 1 by Ogiamien Erebo in 12.00AD.
“Put in other words, there can never, repeat, there can never be an Oba of Benin kingdom without the Ogiamien, but there can always be Ogiamien without the Oba. This is sacrosanct.

The Ogiamien family also pooh-poohed a claim by the Oba of Benin that Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba race, migrated from Bini.
Describing the claim as completely false, it added that the Yoruba race is older than the Bini empire before the invasion.
“Oba Eweka dynasty has no relationship whatsoever with the Ogiso/Ogiamien dynasty and they are now forcing themselves into our dynasty
by fraudulently claiming that Prince Eheneden Erediauwa is now the 70th ruler of Benin kingdom.
“This is completely false. They are descendants of Oramiyan,” the family said adding that to hide history, the oba dynasty stopped sending the remains of the Oba of Benin to Ile Ife upon their demise as directed by Oba Eweka 1.
The family called on Prince Eheneden to prepare for the re-enactment of the treaty with their own recognised king, Rich Arisco Osemwengie.
It also warned that any attempt to circumvent the treaty would be unacceptable.

I've been saying that the Oba family will be put to shame by the Ogiamien family who are the descendants of the Ogiso.

Imagine what inferiority complex and slave - master relationship with the Oba has driven Bini people to? thank goodness the Ogiamien family - the true custodians of the Ogiso heritage - have never allowed themselves to be corrupted by the mental disease called inferiority complex. ..look at how they are still proud and challenge the fallacies of the Omon'Oba and his puppet chiefs who don't know any history. .. Imagine one said in response to the Alake "Oba of Benin is the father of Ooni" how can? when Eweka I the first Oba of Benin was son of Oramiyan, the 6th Ooni?

I blame inferiority complex

Truth is beginning to rear its head.

I want to see how the Benin NL warriors and many pundits who have written a great deal on Ekhaledahern intend to weave their ways out of this solid brick of truth.

Thank you for the mention bro Macof, I'll be following.

I believe before the time of Oba Ewuare the Great who expanded Bini into a small empire, Obas in Bini used to pay tributes to the Ooni.

it's no wonder that Ooni is called Oghene...which happens to be one of the appellations of God in Edoid languages

Brilliant thought.

In addition to that, Macof, apart from assessing both kingdoms from the political; let us look into the dimension of military & trade.

Every other Yoruba town generally agreed never to attack Ife no matter how mighty they might become - this also goes with trade, Ife's trade route or encroachment was always given a 'pass'.

The town that tried to break the two oaths above was totally crushed and left scattered all over Yoruba land - Owu.

If Benin crown was not an off shoot of Ife, they would have long attacked Ife land and trade from the East. Benin was powerful in the East, it engaged Owo, Akure and some Ekiti towns a few times within the context of military and trade; Benin totally left Ife route and lands untouched even though it had the military to.

In fact, when Benin king had contact with the Portuguese, Ife was the first place he sent the message of the news and gifts to before other Yoruba kings.

@macof. Thanks. I remember telling my bini friends that the Benin monarchy has been demystified. The last Oba will be remembered as the one who brought the unintended demystification. You can imagine the descendants of your grand children coming round to claim that he's your father. I prophesied that more will be revealed to expose the historical fraud committed. They will expose them.More is coming. Any other king who wants to distort history will learn from what has happened to the Benin royalty. Those Yoruba ancestors are so wise to keep records of everything and insist that every departed Oba of Benin's head should be buried in Ile Ife, they foresaw that a period when one Oba of Benin will wake up and attempt to distort history would come like this.

The Binis are jealous bunch that have in recent years tried to distort history even though so many of them have Yoruba names, dress like Yorubas, and are accepted by Yorubas. Their fake version of history will never be accepted.

Yes yes. I've always thought about this
Bini empire was very ambitious with plans to extend to the north through Ekiti and the west through the coastal areas of Yorubaland but they never clashed with Ife or had any course to disturb the Ooni..they even avoided countries with boarders with Ife like Ijesa.

another thing of note is that the Oba of Benin's final burial rites were done in Ife. .. like Businessideas said; the Yoruba ancestors(which includes the early Obas at Benin who saw themselves as Yoruba men lording over a foreign culture) were smart to mandate the tradition so as to make a statement to all generations, suspecting controversy might occur over the origin of the dynasty.

we might also like to note the close relationship between the early Obas at Bini and Ife, for instance the bronze casters family in Bini was sent from Ife on request by Oba oguola

The Olu of warri is also called ogiame , since he he a descendant of Prince Iginuwa. The title comes from two words

Ogie (Original Edo word for king) and Ame (Water) = King of the water.
Although the word for King in itsekiri is Olu or Olaja.
While the chiefs are called Oloyes

I pointed out to Bini folks that the difference in names signified a change of dynastic lines from the aboriginal binis to new Yoruba overlords, but they came up with the story of Oduduwa being Izoduwa, then Ekaladerhan, now the voice of truth from their very own midst is exhuming the corpse of history which they are trying so hard to bury.

Actually Ogiamien is different from Ogiame. the Ogiame/Olu of warri is descended from Iginuwa a son of Oba Olua and an Ife woman

Yes. but you know that sort of thing will be considered purely Bini because the warri monarchy was fashioned by that of the Bini. Mother being from Ife is not so important

I HAVE READ WITH DISDAIN HOW THIS THREAD IS TURNED ON ITS HEAD BY DISHING OUT LIES, I BLAME THE FACELESS slowpoke WHO IS WRITING RUBBISH ABOUT THE OGIEAMIEN FAMILY. DO NOT SWALLOW EVERYTHING YOU SEE ONLINE HOOK, LINE AND SINKER.

THE BENIN MONARCHY STARTED IN THIS OBA FORM YES FROM EWEKA AND YES EWEKA HAD BLOOD LINE WITH THE LAST OGISO. THE OGIAMIEN WAS NEVER IN BLOODLINE LINE OF ROYALTY WHETHER OF OGISO OR EWEKA OBASHIP. HISTORY HAS IT THAT OGIAMIEN WAS CHIEF JUST LIKE OGIE-EGOR (WHO IS THE FATHER OF EWEKA MOTHER).

OGIEAMIEN OPPOSED AN OBA DESIGNATE AND A REBEL (JUST LIKE HISTORY IS REPLETE WITH REBELS TO TRUE KINGSHIP, EVEN THE HOUSE OF WINDSOR IN BRITAIN HAVE ITS OWN OPPOSER). THERE WAS A BATTLE THEN AND THE OBA DESIGNATE DEFEATED CHIEF OGIE-AMIEN, SO AS A MARK OF REMEMBRANCE THE BATTLE IS REPLICATED WHERE A NEW OBA HAS TO DEFEAT THE OGIE-AMIEN BEFORE HE CAN ASCEND THE THRONE JUST LIKE GOING TO USEN TO PICK A NAME THE NEW KING WILL BEAR.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WERE COUNTLESS OGIES NOT JUST OGIEAMIEN.........ONE THING IS SURE, EWEKA WONT HAVE RULED IN BENIN IF HE WAS NOT A DESCENDANT OF THE LAST OGISO.

OGIEAMIEN HAS NO BLOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH THE OGISO OR THE LAST ONE...RATHER IT IS OGIE EGOR THAT DOES

But were they my own words. The truth was directly from Benin my brother. May be you should go back to the source and see for yourself.
