George Galloway has made even much more distasteful remarks than what Nwodo said.

And by the way lets put what Nwodo said in context.

Nwodo had remarked during the interactive session of the summit that "We cannot thank you (army) enough for your professionalism and for your patriotism, but I dare say that it does not stop with keeping quiet. As Minister, I remember that General (Muhammadu) Buhari and other General Officers Commanding (GOCs) came to give the President ultimatum that if certain things were not done, they can no longer guarantee security."

He stated further : "The fact that you wear a uniform does not insulate you from the politics of your country, in fact, it gives you more responsibility because when everything fails, it rests on your shoulder to defend the territorial integrity of the country, so speak up."

If those where Nwodo's comments, what's wrong with them.

The Army all over the world warn the Government of impending security crisis when it needs to, so saying that the Army Heirachy should speak up when it thinks its necessary is not inciting coup as some of us are even making it out to be.

Or is it no longer the duty of the Army to defend the territorial integrity of the country.

Forget for a moment what you think Nwodo said and read the comments as produced and tell me what is wrong with it. Thank you.

I did read the statement, and if I were to have been in the Government, anybody making this kind of statement will be tried for treason, and if found guilty, would most likely die.

Patriotism is not all about keeping quiet and being insulated from politics, it also includes advising the Government of an impending crisis and the consequencies if they don't change course.

He did not ask them to speak up mentioning the case of Buhari giving the Government an ULTIMATUM.

Pray tell, what happened after Buhari had spoken up and given his ultimatum?

again you are justifying the arrest of a man based on what you think he is saying or what you think what he is saying could actually lead to and not ultimately his actions.

The law does not convict anyone on speculation

People have no clue what freedom of speech means, anybody has the right to suggest publicly that they will prefer a Military Government in the face of an ineffective Democratic Government. So long as he has not put his words into action and there is no evidence of coup plotting, nobody has any business arresting anyone.

Was it not recently that Glenn Beck accused Obama of being a racist, in essence inciting white people against the black President . . . , Has he been arrested by FBI?

I think most Nigerians still live in seige mentality where people think its a crime to hold an unconventional opinion. The first principle of Democracy is the ability of question the democratic system itself. If we can not tolerate that then we are as guilty as those who prefer Military rule over Democracy.

The SSS should look for better things to do, they will be of more help investigating terrorism within our country than arresting those who are open about their political opinions that they are happy to utter them in the glare of the media.

No one is saying one should not have free speech in condemning your government and its performance. But it is another thing to instigate a threat of toppling them undemocratically.

Telling the military (known for coups) to speak up of consequences against a democratically elected government warrants an interview with the state security apparatus and even a few months in the dungeons especially if you are a figure that should know better.

This is the beauty of Democracy(Freedom of speech),by the way, who is Nwodo to incite the Army?
