Welcome Mad-Max, i was your leave. Do you know about Aveeno Moisturiser cream? What is the difference btw Green Bottle and Pink Bottle? Which one is recommended for fair skin? I av tried all Neutrogenia, Jergen but not yet found one suitable for me, all the moisturisers make me dark. Your respond will be appreciated. Thanks

moisturizers doesnt make anyone dark

You're making yourself dark by not using sun screen
Re: Product Reviews: Stop Wasting Money! Beauty Products That Actually Work by MadMax1(f): 5:34am On Aug 01, 2010
Yes teetee2, it's sunscreen you need. It's one of the most important parts of skincare. And you especially need it in the tropics. The Neutrogena Helioplex sunscreens are the best. Not greasy or shiny. Steaming, what are SA looks? If you were in Lagos I might recommend some stylists.

Some product reviews of some stuff I find amazing:

Clinique 3-Step (No.2) 5/5
I know I'm jumping on to this bandwagon late, but this stuff is wonderful. I'm usually a Neutrogena or Body Shop girl for face care (I have used Clarins face stuff too, when it was gifted to me, and it was ok, but I returned to Neutrogena), and whilst my skin is not bad by any definition, it's not perfect either. I've seen people using Clinique 3-step for a while and I just always thought it was overhyped and overpriced. However, I was in an airport and I saw a special offer on the 3-step and decided on a whim to get it and try it. Let me just say I've found my HG. This stuff is amazing. I have dry-combination skin which means it's really hard to find products that are just right. . . The products for oily skin are over dry my dry areas and give me visible dry scaly patches and the products for dry skin turn my T-Zone into an oil slick. Like honestly, within days, my skin was completely on point. I've never had such smooth skin on my face. . . ever! It also does nice things like reduces the appearance of pores and prevents blemishes. So all in all, it's pretty perfect. I'll reb

Clarins Moisture-Rich Body Lotion with Shea Butter (4.5/5- it loses 0.5 because it smells good, but a little too strong for my tastes
Again, I've used and like Vaseline Cocoa Butter for years, and I still do. But I recently re-bought (a few bottles of) this (on sale), and honestly as much as I like the Vaseline CB, this is farrrr superior. It smooths your skin and makes it soooooo soft that you surprise yourself when you rub your hand along your skin sometimes. It's also really good at softening traditionally rougher areas like elbows, knees, and heels. It's really been helping me maintain my pedicure somehow. . . the soles of my feet are sooooo soft. Unfortunately, it's a bit too rich for my pocket, and as much as I love this and would love to use this forever, I don't know if it's a habit I can sustain in Nigeria right now. But if I could, I definiely would because it's worth it!!!

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
I love this Mascara. I used to use Neutrogena (Healthy Volume) and I really liked that. It is the first mascara I've used that doesn't leave clumps and actually separates and lengthens and thickens without smudging at all. It actually makes a visible difference. Most days I just use this with a bit of pencil eyeliner and that's it, and it looks pretty good. However, cost-wise, I don't know how feasible it is for me to keep using this as it's kind of pricy. But it's the absolute best mascara I've ever used!

Revlon ColorBurst in Crimson (5/5)(
I'm a red lipstick kind of girl, I admit. I don't wear a lot of make up (usually just eyeliner, mascara, powder and lipstick) so I like a red lipstick because it gives a bit of a boost and also the pop of color makes it look a little like I made an effort. However, it's really hard to find the perfect red lipstick in the right shade. I used to use Almay but haven't been able to find it in a while. And believe me I have like maybe 6-7 tubes of red lipsticks that I've bought and used only once because they weren't right. I recently saw Jessica Alba wearing the Revlon ColorBurst in Crimson in an ad, and I thought it was perfect (even though she's shades lighter than me). I managed to get a hold of a tube and it's absolutely perfect. It's the exact right shade of red (not too orange, not too purple) and I can see how it would fit a variety of skin tones. You can put on a light layer so it comes out kind of like a well-tinted lip balm (the way I use it) or you can build it up to a dramatic red for a striking night look. It also glides on really easily and doesn't make the lips look or feel dry or sticky and is pretty moisturizing. It does fade a bit as the hours go by, but it's pretty long-lasting and it gives a tint all-day (well from morning till when I wash my face at night). It's better than the almay, not expensive and really good.

I'm relaxed but my mom is natural. She's mostly in braids all the time now, but when she wore her hair out, she used to go to this salon in V/I called Lolami (sp?) whose owner specialized in dealing with natural hair. They're located at LSDPC flats on Adeola Odeku (shop E5, she thinks), my mom hasn't gone in a while but she thinks they still exist.

Well, I sort of don't buy my beauty products here. They're overpriced, for one thing, and others are elusive here. Someone mentioned she saw Olay Regenerist in Lagos for N8000. I bought two at $19 each. I don't mind high prices but it should be worth it, at least. It's annoying how they inflate some prices here and act like you're either too dumb to know better or too flush to care. With hair products I confess scent is my first consideration lol. I want great-smelling hair. I've been loving Morrocan Oil since last year but hair isn't as needy as skin. It just needs excellent protein products, moisturisers and twice monthly deep conditioning. I used a hair care compete pack at $79, and later bought a N950 product in Lagos and both worked just about the same. With cosmetics, forget brand names and just look for how much of the great ingredients a product has.

Looks like some posts are missing up there.

It sort of depends on what you want to do, jovi. No single salon is great at everything. You're welcome Angelloven.  No research involved. Everyone's been posting stuff they've used, and that works for them.

obagi products?
Re: Product Reviews: Stop Wasting Money! Beauty Products That Actually Work by yjay(f): 1:20pm On Aug 30, 2010
@nanidee, theres absolutely no way u ll get obagi products in lagos and im almost certain of it,even some drugstore brands like roc, some products by olay cant be found in Nigeria.
obagi products are not products u ll find just anywhere even in the US cos most of their products are prescription-strength formulations, the systems are only available through physicians, primarily dermatologists, plastic surgeons, medical spas and other skin care and medical specialists.

on a second thought maybe some exclusive spas here in Naija, forget stores thats for sure!!!!!

Re: Product Reviews: Stop Wasting Money! Beauty Products That Actually Work by MadMax1(f): 8:46pm On Sep 12, 2010
Oh my. I haven't been in here in ages. So sorry.
teetee2 dear, have you gotten that sunscreen yet? Since you're light-skinned you can't do without. Use it for a few weeks, and you'll see it's really all you need not to darken from exposure to sunlight. SPF50 minimum. Neutrogena. Use any moisturiser you like under it. You'll be as pale as anything in weeks.I'm sure jovi must've had the hair done and probably another after that. Brownbaby, I use the Morroccan Oil reviewed in the first few pages. Got it cos of the scent, for mosturising and conditioning. Scent comes first for me with hair products. I can use Philosophy on skin and smell like a dead raccoon, but hair must smell great jere. nanidee why do you want obagi?Obagi uses a higher than usual concentration of hydroquinone;from 4% upwards. That's why some of their products require a prescription. It's just jazzed up, old-fashioned hydroquinone you're shelling out for with obagi.

@Mad-Max and Browncocos

Where Can I get Neutrogena SPF30 Sunscreen and Moroccan Oil in Lagos?

, wink
Re: Product Reviews: Stop Wasting Money! Beauty Products That Actually Work by MadMax1(f): 9:09pm On Sep 16, 2010
b4 and after pictures? lol.

OK nanidee.

Iranoladun, Browncocos might know. Any decent cosmetics store in Lagos should store sunscreen. They're not hard to find. If you've a regular beauty store, ask the owner to buy them. Sometimes they don't buy stuff cos no one asked for them. I use SPF 85. Usually the higher the spf the thicker and greasier the sunscreen. Not so with Netrogena Helioplex range. Don't know how they did it. If you're light-skinned, spf 30 might not be enough for the tropics. The Morroccan oil; no idea where they can be got in Lagos. There should be alternatives just as good. Name brands really don't count, as long as they have the quality ingredients you need for your skin and hair.

Bentonite Clay, Black Soap and Shea Butter have become my staple.

My sister has Hyper-pigmentation, used the Black soap, it cleared
she now went back to using all these other products
It came back and she's been proper pissed.
She just started using the black soap again, one of the best things ever!
