Well there was a time a did a research on candle making , the thing is that candles used in Nigeria are imported, we don't produce locally, and there is a big market out there especially if you diversify to scented candles,let me know how serious you are, could let you have some of my research materials & business plans.

Most simple candles are produced locally. The basic raw material is parrafin wax which is mainly imported .

Nothin special about candle making in naija. My aunt used to make candles. I used to help her back then.

I can tell you things I can remember from the factor

1. The mold machine
2. Threads runners
3. Nylon sealers
4. Gas cooker with large burning nozelz and large pots to melt wax
5. Drums (normal chemical drums locally called Koroba or somethin)

We used to make candles and some polythene products then. I was young back then though. And I can tell u its still the same old technology. The factory is idle now. I can tell her to sell the equipments

Candle making is one of the most lucrative business you will ever get involved with for those with the "can do attitude".
We are produce environmentally friendly candles. Candles made both locally and imported have for long been done without regards to the environment poluting the buyer's house with excessive carbon, This is why we are introducing environmentally friendly candles to the Nigerian market soon, which will be 100% local contents. Candles making involves more than just buying fabricated materials or parafin wax. There are more than four waxes used in candle production of those two can be regarded as full local content waxes which are the most environmentally friendly wax. And yes parafin wax isnt among because it is an imported wax.
Most people who get into candle production dont last, they burn out their capital as fast as candle burns out, because like every other agressive producer they think its all about melting and pouring. Well, it is much more than that.
We shall be holding a practical candle making seminar in Nigeria by November-2009, december-2009 and January-2010, feb-2010 at Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Calabar, Benin, and Rivers.
Where we shall perform practive productions with various candles types e.g, tea-light, scented, colored, special birthday candles, tape, votive, designer shape, floating.
participants shall also be taught how to make colorful candles, special birthday candles using alphabets, and scented candles.
Candles are produced at specific temperatures to ensure the producer doesnt run at a loss or the product is finished to perfection. Same goes for color candles and scented candles. Heating temp. are different from pouring temp. and cooling temp. Wicking size (width) is important because it deciedes how much carbon is emitted to the atmosphere!
Paperwork is very important in every aspect of production, be it computer, electrical, car manufacturing etc. that is why we shall teach production documentation including temperatures, etc, tracking, product introductory letter to consumers. Before production the first thing that comes to the producer is how do i sell my product, we shall teach marketing ideals both risk and risk proof aspect. Material safety data sheet (M.S.D.S) Candle production comes with a great deal of fire risk. That is why we shall also include material safety data sheet, so that each producer would not end up burning a rented shop or house. Do you know that with a minimun of N30,000 naira and maximum of N50,000 you can start candle production?, Yes you can as long as you already have a production location, which can be in one's home or shop. We shall also teach how to start small and grow big. We can also help you source producing equipments

Cost of our seminar is N5,000 per participant for all locations except Abuja, cost of the seminar at Abuja is N10,000 per participant (Due to high cost conference centers at Abuja hotels) which will only be payable on at the venue of the seminar.
