Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu with his wife, Nkechi today flagged off the Free School Meal programme in the state. The scheme will see Govt providing a free lunch to pupils in Abia Primary Schools on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.

Okezie Ikpeazu also distributed school shoes, bags, balls & books to pupils in the 3 Senatorial zones of the State today.

This is not only a misplaced priority but also a waste of insufficient resources. For how long will you feed them for Pete's sake? Why giving them bag when there are no books? School structures are dilapidated with no furniture, teachers' salaries are not paid, standard of education in government schools has crumbled & yet what our elected leaders could do to salvage it is distribution of food & bag. God dey o.

You are so right bro. I pity the generation of these kids. By the time they grow, they won't be able to stand by side with their mates from private schools. I just don't know why our leaders find it so difficult to do the right thing. Always majoring on minor isssues.

The former Imo State from which Abia state was created has always been know to be very good academically.
The Government should be sincere and put up Academic infrastructures and strengthen the Teacher Training Institutions and not sharing and fighting over contracts of who will supply rice and pure water.

Where can one find one sincere Nigerian politician ? His predecessor was busy building new govt house, state secretariat, international conference centre, annexing govt lands at old ministry of lands, old timber and old market at gate to build duplexes that will be auctoined at exorbitant rates. Most are uncompleted projects.

Now all these were done at the expense of 7 months staff salaries before May 2015.

Abia State story must change, kudos to Ikpeazu
