It depends on the foundation on which your relationship was founded on, no right thinking BF would breakup with you because you lost your job instead he would stand by you and help you through your search for a new one.
My advise would be that you open up to him, and if he breaks with you then honestly he didn't deserve you in the first place. Are you his sugar mommy? I just don't see how losing a job will affect how he feels about you unless he was in it for the money. Now if you're living together & share bills, then I can see how it could be strenuous or whatever. But to totally change? I doubt it.
