what are you saying? The only reason why there's delay in the adoption of this proposal is because of OIL,the North don't want to let go. Corruption would be greatly tackled under Regional rule as some may want to call it,and it remains the only solution to Nigeria's problems. Secession is never an option,but true federalism where each geo-political region would develop based on its strength,technology and available resources. That way there would be competition from all quarters and rapid change. The true change lies in true federalism.

Insincerity on the part of southwest political leaders is what is withholding return to true and fiscal federalism to Nigeria.

Last CONFAB, southwest leaders asked for regional government system without fiscal federalism. Regional government without fiscal federalism is worse than the unitary government system we have today.

But before merging southwest ACN to northern Nigeria political parties who can't touch return to true and fiscal federalism even with a long pole, ACN leaders then had been begging in every political campaign to restore true and fiscal federalism to Nigeria.

Northern and south west Nigeria are merely playing on the intelligence of others over the issue of return to true and fiscal federalism.

Methinks, the north and southwest are merely waiting for when crude oil finishes in the Niger delta before they can agree to return to true and fiscal federalism.

SW has always had very politically progressive individuals in isolation. Nothing new. Awo was the most notable progressive. But when push comes to shove, SW somehow prefers to be the North's appendage.

Awo had the chance to extract true federalism from Gowon, but instead he looked on as Gowon created divisive, centralising new states.
To what end? That the North would be so grateful & finally allow SW (Awo) to rule Nigeria? Especially after knowing the stand of Ahmadu Bello & other Northern leaders on Nigeria.
Aburi Accord was supported by Governors of SW & Lagos. Only Governor of the North, Lt Col Hassan Katsina opposed it in Ghana. It granted regions enormous autonomy.

Awo could have extracted something similar or close to avoid the war.
