We tend to politicize with sentiments, till things blow up -- same thing is happening in the SS now.

OTOH, the military under GEJ was as corrupt as scoliosis. You can't use the excuse given by the CDS to justify diversion of arms funds, sending soldiers to the war-front to essentially 'go and die', and many other atrocities perpetuated.

I belive you went to school and you can read and write. PMB himself said a fight against Boko haram was against the North. The CDS in question is a muslim and knows more than you do. Please stop reasoning politically and do as functional homo sapien

Former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim (Rtd) has blamed politics for failure of the military to defeat Boko Haram under the leadership of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ibrahim on Monday in Abuja told journalists during a lecture he delivered at the National Defence College (NDC) on Military Leadership and National Security, that “In our time, there were so many distractions.”

The CDS served from October 2012 to January 16, 2014, and also as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) from 2010 to 2012.

Ibrahim added that: “Up to the time the Commander in Chief then declared a State of Emergency, you will hear: ‘we are negotiating here and there, please slow down,’ north eastern elders were worried.

“Can you imagine fighting a war and the people you were trying to protect were thinking that soldiers out there on the streets of Maiduguri, were an army of occupation, which brought a lot of political dimension to the issues.

“And when political dimension, combined with several other policy choices, the result was what we saw, when the state of emergency was declared, I thought there was a little celebration, because the political dimension was like giving you a job and tying your hand behind your back.

“Besides the resources to take on such challenges were neither here nor there, to the level one would have expected, we were not prepared for the nature of the insurgency, even our procurement processes were tailored towards or heavier on conventional warfare.”

And the same northerners who refused to support the Nigerian Army and saw them as an occupying force still blame GEJ for failing to crush BH.

Now see what the political dimension in the same war on terror between US and Russia can do. While US supports terrorists (called rebels by western media) for regime change, Russia supports the legitimate Govt of Assad to stay in power.

Jonathan was a victim of his own incompetence and political naivety. There is no denying that he exploited the war in the NE to his political advantage.

Arms funds for which war were diverted to fund who's failed re-election campaign? Who would expect him to be serious about defeating BH when continuing the battle was a sure source of campaign funds? When Dasuki his NSA was busy deliberately sabotaging the military and funneling diverted funds to Wadata Plaza?

What a wicked and ineffectual buffoon. At his level of greed and incompetence, he will struggle to command even a Boys Brigade.

children of Ignorance... can u see things the way they are or are u keen on seeing them from your hate and brainwashed point of view.. After Jonathan tenure has Buhari purchased any military weapon..no... Why is Buhari winning the war and Jonathan is receiving the awards and recognition from war he did not win...The truth is clear and international politics knows it more than our Brain wash minds....

The North held Boko haram rampage from a political point of view to weaken Jonathan Administration same way ND avengers are supported by some elites from SS and SE to dis-stablize Buhari administration.. Stop paying attention To Lai Mohammed lies

But if ask me i will simply say that its easier for Nigerian army populated by hausa/fulani to win a war in their own land if commanded by a
general who is their brother than for them to win same war if commanded by someone who is not from their Land. This is the reason i supported Buhari to be President not so-called corruption claim Apc included in their manifesto to scam Nigerias. I know from sunset that BOko haram is not hard to wipe out but Northern politicians with their so called Leaders in Nigerian Army allowed Boko haram to escalate just to make sure Jonathan fail in containing Boko haram insurgence. I just mercy those who lost their life and family for useless Northern proganda.

MAIDUGURI—The Emir of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Muhammadu Idrissa Timta has said none of his Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, including himself and his immediate family will return to Gwoza until Boko Haram terrorist are completely wiped out. According to him, most communities especially surrounding mountainous villages of Ngoshe, Ashigashiya, Barawa and other border communities with Cameroon Republic are strictly under the control of the sect members, lamenting that over “10,000 persons are still trapped in Mandara Mountains (Bayan Dutse), He spoke while reacting to a statement credited to the Senate Leader Mohammed Ndume, who also hails from Gwoza, calling on IDPs to return without waiting for government directive. The Emir insisted that the so-called liberation of Gwoza communities hitherto under Boko Haram control by troops was only visible on the pages of newspapers. He noted that those who took courage and returned to resettle in Gwoza town could not move out of the community, as they were likely to fall into the hands of insurgents that still surrounded the town without confrontation. The Royal Father spoke to Vanguard yesterday at one of the resettlement camps in Maiduguri, few days after visiting Gwoza town. Muhammadu succeeded his Late father, Idrissa Timta who was assassinated by Boko Haram in May, 2014 on his way to attend funeral ceremony of the late emir of Gombe State. He lamented that no traditional ruler would like to stay away for a long time from his domain together with his over 300,000 subjects displaced, but as Allah (God) had destined it, he had no excuse. According to him, those agitating for return of IDPs to their communities, especially those from Gwoza were only doing so to expose the already traumatized people to further attacks. The Traditional ruler revealed that last week, before proceeding to Gwoza with the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Durkwa, he was among those who on that same day accompanied the two emirs of Askira and Uba who recently relocated back to their domain after spending two years in Maiduguri. Regretting that the level of destruction of lives and properties in Gwoza alone, was far more than what obtainable in neighbouring Askira and Uba, now free from Boko Haram occupation.

Though I support the fight against corruption and acknowledge corruption in the nation's military structure during the last administration, there are elements of truth in this one. Boko haram! The fact is that those who frustrated the fight out of nebulous political reasons are our northern brothers who should v helped forestall the menace. In our country now, almost all our former military leaders are northerners. They should have brought their military experience to bear in curbing this at least for the sake of our brothers that died in it(including the terrorists and the terrorized) but may be they wanted someone to fail. How many of us know the role past presidents of USA are still playing in America today especially cold and post-cold war US leaders? Everything about this country is selfishness. Those who opposed ihejirika should tell us if there is a different strategy employed by this current regime in fighting bh? Efforts are being made to procure arms to still fight and kill them or is the federal government liasing with them? This country is not United in any way, rather it is currently being more divisive.

This country - and Nairaland - is overrun with gullible clowns.

Top Nigerian army generals stole billions of dollars of taxpayer funds from the Army and robbed our forces of materiel to defend themselves...and people here who are impoverished due to corruption are swallowing the story hook, line and sinker.

Let this General tell us if it is 'northern elders' that enabled Boko Haram drive soldiers out of 14 LGAs.

A corrupt government or people or persons can not defeat anything, a criminal can't defeat crimes or other criminals, a thief can't defeat stealing and any other thief. The truth is that each person will truly, mainly and really be behaving and acting as he truly is but doing and taking the other thing as tertiary thing, for example the issue of governance. I mean a corrupt leader will concentrate primarily, mainly and truly on corruption, how to enrich himself, wife, children, family members, friends, party members and so on and the issue of real governance welfare of people, security, health and so on will be tertiary thing to him. The true and inner thing will be looting but the outward thing will be " we are leaders and leading. You can't serve two masters; yourself and the people, you have to choose one.
And so nothing else will work under a corrupt government or leader except only corruption, and her children; injustice, unrighteousness, and wickedness. So this is why almost all nations in Africa and other nations of the world where they are corrupt have been a mess till today.
